Shimano MTN rear derailleur on S30

Hey, I've been riding with a Microshift Shimano MTN compatible rear derailleur, 11-36 cassette, and microshift 10-speed bar-end shifters for years now, and I've always heard some noise in the lowest gear (largest cog). I finally asked my friend who's a bike mechanic and he suggested a b screw adjustment. Upon which I discovered that the derailleur hanger seems to be too short, as even with the b screw all the way in the chain still doesn't slip nicely onto the teeth of the cog.

It doesn't seem to have been a huge issue because the cassette teeth aren't that worn, but now I'm wondering about switching things up.

Anybody else running a shimano MTN set up to accommodate larger cogs?

Also, the b screw has worn a nice groove in the derailleur hanger...
