The High Speed Low Drag rosters are becoming clearer as race day nears. Power-wise Cpt. Josh of High Speed is fielding a group of very strong riders. These guys can make a run for the top tier of the Mocha Division. The only issue is with only five members on their team they will have little room for making any tactical mistakes. This is easier said than done as the "out and back again"course is technically an advanced level course that has historically exposed any team weakness. Race fans can expect to see broken teams strewn along the entire reverse KOM corridor on Thursday. Eight rider teams will have some wiggle room for mistakes. High Speed's five-man roster does not. They will need to find that perfect top speed which doesn't pop even one team member. If they can find the magic sauce for High Speed and teamwork they have a chance. Of course, they can always use a few more riders to give them a hand. What are you doing Thursday night?
Low Drag and Cpt. Rough and Ready Roy are raring to go. They are also handicapped with only five riders. But the lack of numbers is not as detrimental to Low Drag. In fact five riders is a good thing as it provides open slots for any of you readers to jump in. These guys reconnoitered the course and had quite a few whimpers on their planning message board after doing so. But I'm sure their fears will quickly evaporate as soon as the gate drops. Look for Low Drag to fade on the way up the volcano, only to arrive together and highly motivated at the top. You will then see a large burst of enthusiasm for the descent. That enthusiasm will soon be tempered by the mud climb at the Italian Village. Then comes the critical point in the race for Low Drag. If they make it around Statue Corner together, combined as one, they will finish the race with a splendid time and a Herculean effort. If they don't? Well, it wont be pretty. My bet is a Herculean effort. Why don't you jump in and help improve their chances?
