Silvio and I kept Pace with pack during group ride!

Hi all Silvio fans

I did my weekly Monday night ride at Goodales Bike shop out of Nashua NH tonight.. It was a great ride! For the first time this season, I kept up with the main pack for 30 miles going at about a 18 MPH pace over the entire course. This area has LOTS of hills! Even the store manager who goes noticed my increased strength.. I think being on a recumbent really surprised them too!

My latest discovery with regard to training, is the day before a fast long ride like this, I go on a flat 20 -25 miles pretty fast ride to prime the muscles. If the day before ride is too hilly and I am really straining, it really prevents me from having a strong ride the next day. My muscles are in recovery if the ride is too hard. But a flat training ride, really seems to warm them up nicely for the fast group ride.

One thing I noticed is the aerodynamics of the Silvio.. When going down hills, other riders will be pedaling down the hill, and I am just coasting, but am still catching up to them. I don't have to get in that painful tuck position either, so much more comfortable!

Loving it!

Sounds like a really enjoyable ride Harold.

I didn't understand what 'NH' meant. So I did some searching around in Google and found out that it is the abbreviation for the state of New Hampshire. The link below might be useful to anyone else on here who like me, doesn't live in the USA.

I've noticed the same thing, more or less. It's great fun to be resting while the others are working to keep up! I almost feel like I'm cheating myself out of the workout!

The fast coasting gets a little more rest, but for a good part of the ride, my heart rate is above 155 and max's out at around 172, so I am getting enough! My rate does recover quickly, so these little coasting rests are nice.
