Hello fellow Sofriders.
I'm a recent Sofrider convert after a several year recumbent apprenticeship on a short wheel base M5 20/20. So, what made me buy a Sofrider when I already had an armchair ride? My mountain bike!
Out of sympathy for my family who had agreed to accompany me on a 30km charity ride, I rode my mountain bike having spent a couple of weeks riding to work to condition by butt. Those few weeks were enough to remind me how fundamentally unnatural the riding position is on traditional bikes. What surprised me was that I enjoyed it despite the discomfort! I took delight in the freedom of movement afforded by my mountain bike, but most of all I loved the clean, quiet efficiency of well adjusted d?railleur gears. My M5 has the standard long chain, chain idler and tubes. All these contribute to a noisy if not inefficient drive chain.
Having known John Tolhurst through the WAHPV group and even riding one of his prototypes for a few weeks, I was familiar with the CruzBike but I only connected all the dots after my mountain experience. Suddenly I saw the genius of the front wheel drive recumbent idea.
Some people are slow learners I guess!
I've had the Sofrider for two weeks now and I love it!
Smooth, quiet ... stealthy!
