No one saw it coming. The Cochran Gazette called it the biggest upset since the 1980 Miracle on Ice. Sticky Bottles held off the other three Cruzbike juggernauts—High Speed, Low Drag, and the Cruzbike Chicks—to win the CVRT Team Time Trial.
But this victory didn’t come easy. The Stickies were pushed the entire race. With just 3.5 kilometers to go, all four teams were within a one-minute window, front to back. It came down to this final downhill dash to the line. Low Drag’s Rocketman Russell was the first across, but after that, it was all Sticky Bottles.
The Stickies hit the timer first, followed by the rest of Low Drag, who were fending off a hard-charging Cruzbike Chicks squad just 14 seconds behind. And nipping at the Chicks’ heels? High Speed—just 2 seconds back! Power, passion, and glory. The Stickies did it.
That old cliché—“There are no losers today, every team was a winner”—might actually hold true here. Hats off to Low Drag: Bryan, Rick, and Russell went to battle with just three riders and almost pulled it off. Hang in there, Rocketman—we’re looking under every rock for more teammates. They’re coming!
What can you say about those Sticky boys? I’ll tell you what: “Not chicked today!” Give Sticky a full roster (plus a big head start) and we’ll run with the big dogs.
Seconds from first, seconds from last—third-place Chicks are no joke. It’s no secret that Connie and I race side-by-side in the battle room, so I get to see and hear the Chicks in action. No team is more focused. These gals are efficient, smooth, and fast. How fast? In this race the Cruzbike Chicks finished top ten in the world in their Vienna–Mocha Division—landing at number ten. Back in the day, that would've earned an automatic invite to the now-defunct Premier League Race!
And those High Speeders... so close. Ottotrious has that team humming, but to win it all, they’ll need a perfect race. This week’s Waterloo? Maybe that last ten percent—the details. Someone showed up on a $15K time trial bike, not realizing those high-speed aero tires would bog down in the Jungle. That slog in the bog may have been the seconds that cost them the title.
Next week: a new adventure. Come join us or form your own team—we’ll help you get started.
