I have poured through the forum and have given myself a rudimentary education on the cruzbike and its various iterations. I have found a inexpensive Trek Y-5 frame that I am interested in using.
FRAME MEASUREMENTS:
Seat tube measures 16 inches from center of bottom bracket to seat tube opening. Top tube measures 20 inches center to center. The head tube is 4 1/3 inches long. Dropout spacing is standard 126mm rear and 100mm front. Seat tube is 27.2mm.
It is a smaller frame which I believe to be desired in the conversion to a cruzbike. I have been looking for frames in the 15" to 17" range or a "small" in the sm,med, lrg sizing schemes. I do have a few reservations or requirements that I need to satisfy and fulfill before continuing with purchasing this frame for conversion.
1. anybody out there know of any downsides to this particular frame setup?
2. I am set on using the wheels off of my road bike (Klein Quantum) with a cross tire as my riding tends to encounter lots of gravel and dirt roads. (My road bike and its street tires are so not happy on some days). Will this frame accommodate such wheels?
3. If I cannot find an acceptable frame elsewhere ($$$) I will go with the V2K frame-set and would like to know about the wheel compatibility here as well.
4. This project is spurred on specifically due to a personal mission to tour. I will be training this summer and over the winter to complete a 500+ tour from Philipsburg Montana to Boise Idaho. The exact route has not been planned as of yet but there are a number of serious climbs and hopefully thrilling descents on every one of the potential routes. Are there frame considerations I should take into account for touring specifically?
Thanks for any input you guys have
Scott
