Sunscreens

Hi all,
As the southern hemisphere is now in ideal cycling conditions and recumbent riders receive more face UV exposure, solar protection is topical.... (excuse the pun)

Here's a good review of current sunscreen knowledge from a non-commercial perspective (Australian government website). Includes nanoparticle discussion.

Anyone have favourite solar protection tips to share?

I like to have cloth covers

I like to have cloth covers over my ears, as part of the helmet straps. Means one less place that needs sunscreen. I always wear runner's compression tights and long sleeved jerseys, nearly always simple cloth gloves. The one thing missing is a face mask. I saw one the other day, a dress-up-as-a-ghost mask that kids like to wear, but my wife wouldn't let me buy it. !!!! She doesn't like the beard much either, but hey, its my face. maybe I could offer to shave if I am allowed to wear a mask? lol

Sunscreen!

I live on the correct hemisphere.

(ahem)

Sunscreen (the Sun also shines here):

I sweat a lot... so I need sunscreen meant for swimmers.
I use anthing greater than 30 S.P.F. and I use it liberally.
On my nose, I use Bullfrog: it applies (and is packaged like)
like lip balm... and it is less messy than titanium dioxide.
This product was recommended by a lifeguard friend and I,
in turn, recommend it.

My Height-of-Summer helmet is modified with an airscoop,
which keeps my head cool when I'm making power in high air temps.
As a side benefit, the airscoop shades my thinning scalp from harmful U.V.
