You are right more cities can learn from other cities and become more bike and pedestrian friendly. When some see the benefits more will follow? Nice stories.

I was taken back by how cheap and easy they did it. Mostly, they thought outside the box. For example, putting the bike lane next to the curb and making the cars park ouside of the bike lane. Brilliant! Cyclists don't get doored and you don't have cars and cylists crossing paths! Simply by moving the stripes/barriers and getting people to think differently, they changed a culture. Think about thata second!

This video should be mandatory viewing by all city planners.

Other cities have been doing that for a looong time. And sure you can get doored too, just the other door.

I didn't mean to infer that NY was doing anything nobody else was. The point is, they made some big changes and in a good way. Most of the time you hear about how they can't do what they want because it's too expensive and blah, blah, blah. Here, they did it cheaply and the people have taken to it.
