Target Cheapie Suitability?

I have ordered the conversion kit and I'm really looking forward to this challenge. I already own a 24" MTB-Dynacraft "vertical" that I bought from Target several years ago for my son. He's since outgrown it and it just sits in the garage. Has anyone endeavored a conversion on one of these "cheapies?" Concerns/advice?

BTW, this was not one of the recalled Dynacraft bikes-I looked into it.

It will work and you''ll have a blast building your bike and take pride in riding a bike you built yourself.

From there, it depends on what you expect out of it.
