The Road to the Race Across Oregon Finish

My name is Bill Swadener.

I start this thread to share my experiences getting ready for and finishing Race Across Oregon (20-23Jul2018, 625 miles, 33,000 ft climbing, 62 hr time cut).

My inspiration is family and friends, especially those dealing with cancer, such as my cousin Julia (avid cyclist, never smoked). After a fierce battle, lung cancer claimed her life earlier this year.

These amazing people have made me consider my dream of Race Across America, and take the first step: Qualify. Thus, Race Across Oregon.

My objectives are:
--- Finish Race Across Oregon by 5:00 a.m. Monday 23Jul2018, thus qualifying for RAAM.
--- Raise $10,000 by for cancer research by 31Aug2018.
--- Learn a lot and have an amazing journey.

I intend to post notes a couple times a week.

I would be honored if you would like to follow my training. My Strava name is Bill Swadener.

I would also be honored if you would like to donate. My fundraising page is here.

I am grateful to learn from you, and hope what I learn might help others as well.

I’m really nervous. I am also really, really, really excited about this journey with my V20 and you!!!

Sincerely,

Bill

Go man, go! Planning a similar effort for similar reasons in 2019 . . . cause I figure I'll need that much time to get sufficiently comfortable on the CB.
