To buy or to try to setup bike again (normal type)

Hi, I'm looking at paying $60 for a professional setup of my giant yukon mountain bike plus $200 most likely for a seat.

Has anybody had success doing this or is it only a extention of time but eventually the usually soarness returns.

Or just go for quest or sofrider and keep some money.

Also can't decide sofrider or quest, the giant has hydraulic disk brakes so I'm a bit spoilt.

a complete revamp

Greg,
the cruzbike is such a breath of fresh air for your body comfort that hydaulic brakes, whie nice in themselves, will not keep you from loving your new bike. We are talking a complete revamp of your whole cycling experiene, not just messing at the margins with seats and nice brakes.

Hi, John

im 5'10" from your guide 42-43" xseam so i should fit

i use to ride from tuart hill near mcdonalds wanneroo rd and morley drive along the bike path next to the freeway to lake gwellup and back but this has reduced to side road out to behind big rock toyota on wanneroo road.

my plan is once iv got (most likely) your quest is around the river via subiaco along train line up past government house narrows south perth foreshore past burswood over the bidge back home.

thats the ride i did yesterday with the resulting 2 or 3 day rest to get some feeling back in the lower regions.

perfect for that

Greg,
I know those roads and bike paths, and the Quest would be perfect for that kind of ride. Are you thinking of any options with the bike?

Hi Greg,
After riding

Hi Greg,

After riding Cruzbikes for years I used my Merida mountain bike as a one off (as I couldn't fit the Topeak child seat onto the Quest).

I soon felt the saddle pain, even with a Fizik Arione seat. I have put a massive comfort seat (Giant), but thinking of buying the 2nd gen Quest which can take a child seat so I can avoid using a diamond frame bike totally.

I think a Quest will suit your riding well. I live in Mt Hawthorn and ride the freeway psp path everyday to Perth.

It really is a matter of physics- Pressure= Force / Area... Diamond frame bikes can't compare.

cheers

Hi Greg,
I've been commuting

Hi Greg,

I've been commuting on a Quest 559 (version 1) for the last two years. It's a 26km round trip from Bassendean to Perth (CBD) and back.

The bike has a Topeak Super Tourist rack with a piece of steel custom-fitted to attach and support the rack. It allows me to ride with a Topeak MTX 'quicktrack' bag; side panniers fully extended.

Now I've mastered a Quest, it's likely I'll never go back to standard road bikes. Like Kling, I only ride uprights when I need to take my 20month-old baby somewhere in a Topeak child-seat.

Incidentally Topeak, in all their wisdom, decided to make their child-seat incompatible with their other quicktrack seats (read: Super Tourist model) and don't appear to sell the child-seat rack separately. If they did, I'd have one on both the Quest and my old uprigh

Caution with Topeak rack on Quest

Hi Toby,
It is just as well that the Topeak child seat is not interchangeable onto their Super Tourist rack.
I did try fitting the child seat&rack to the Quest but the single custom steel attachment allowed too much sway of the child seat.
So I swapped the Quest back to a standard SuperTourist rack.

Three weeks ago whilst riding to work, the custom steel piece broke where the LBS had drilled to attach to the frame- the Topeak bag was dragging at >20km/h. I feel nauseous thinking what would have happened if my son had been in the child seat.

The LBS are going to look into replacing it with something stronger - have asked for two pieces of comparable strength spring steel to the Topeak supplied. Still, likely to be used for cargo only. Maybe I'll get a Quest 2.0 for the heavy duty rack...

Cheers

Important Safety Tip, thanks Egon.

Thanks for the word of warning Kling.

The big downside to the Super-Tourist/custom steel bar setup is that it limits the seat angle adjustments. I can't quite get an angle I'm comfortable with that doesn't have the seat post hard up against the seat (the 2 three-hole adjustment beams end up being flush against the seat basically).

I'm a little concerned the resulting stress being placed on the adjustment beams is... Well, bad.

On the other hand, I really like the Topeak bag+quicktrack combo... My life is so hard [grins].
