Tool Roll

Last year I bought a tool roll from SILCA https://silca.cc/products/seat-roll-grande-americano I bought a demo version so that I didn't pay full price. But then I tried to pack in all the cr*p I carry on my rides and it didn't fit. So I went to a local fabric store and picked up some materials to make my own. Then it sat in my pile of things to do when I have time. Well it rained this weekend so it seemed as good as anytime for one of these projects.

So here is the final result, it's 21" long, and 12.5" wide (open) and seems to fit everything. I don't like strapping this much wealth under the seat so it will ride in my trunk bag, but it could be strapped to the headrest bars.

I'll the photos in a follow on post.

I marvel at some audax colleagues whom make do with a tube a basic multi tool and a tyre lever. On 1200 klm audax rides. Universally the refrain is “preparation.....and you will be coming along by and by to help........if need be with your kitchen sink. “

They have a point......

Not many mechanicals on well prepped bikes.

Horses for courses of course and I am personally carrying less and less but still am cautious. Scope yet for being brave lol.

The metal loop handle is from a 6" adjustable wrench, the multi tool is a Leatherman Crunch(tm) sometimes you just need a wrench and a pair of pliers with some force behind them....

The red tube with the word "SILCA" on it is from SILCA.ca and it's a torsion check so that I don't over tighten some of those smaller screws around my handlebars.

The funny shaped bit of metal is a Leatherman(tm MAKO Ti bike tool. Good for adjusting spokes and as a backup for the Wera ratchet.

The extensions have a rubber o-ring on them so that if you remove the ring, insert the tool in the Hex hole in the MAKO tool, and put the o-ring back on, it holds the extension in the MAKO tool.

all the hex keys are for all the misc hex nuts on my bikes. They should be fewer of them, but these are the one's that actually fit.

If you notice in the tool roll I also have a 1/4" breaker bar if I need more leverage than the Wera ratchet can give me.

Nice, very organised. I have a small dry bag attached to my headrest; with a multiple (topeak alien II) Leatherman plus a 2nd cheap small foldable plyer to remove the extension from my tubeless valve and into the tube in my frame should I ever need it (I did once on the way to work 2 years ago when I didn't have it, but I haven't needed it since). A CO2 inflator (I have a fold up topeak floor pump attached to my frame)
