TrainingPeaks Virtual (ex IndieVelo)

The price of Zwift jumped to 20 Euros, so I decided to try an alternative – by the way, such a sudden 43% price increase (from 14 Euro) is a really unpleasant move. I decided to try an alternative called IndieVelo, and I have to say it's really great. For now, the platform is developing dynamically and will remain free until March. You can even choose a recumbent trike as your avatar!

I have been using it for several months now. Love it!
We having been doing regular group races with some local friends. Works really well on Windows PC.

Don't you have good conditions for riding all year round? :D Winter is approaching here – the days are getting shorter. So far, I've only done one ride, but my first impressions are super positive. Sure, there aren’t as many routes, and the graphics are not so pretty. I also find myself wondering who’s a bot and who’s a real player. But everything is in place, and it reminds me of Zwift from four years ago when I started.

I have been using it for 2 years now and really like it, not sure what the cost will be after March. It is great for what I use it for.

Yes, we do. All year round  . However, during week days the time is limited, so we do an early morning indoor session before going to work.

I also personally find it easier to do structured intervals indoor. I have better control of the conditions and can have a more precise session.

I wish I could say the same... In Poland, it’s not very cold yet. It’s currently 7 degrees outside, but we’ve already had the first snow for a moment. Unfortunately, Poland isn’t like Finland in this regard – as soon as a little snow falls, the road services immediately spread a mix of salt and sand all over the roads. This makes it unpleasant for road bikes, especially on corners.

I hope that the fact TP bought IndieVelo will help them grow and become a real competitor to Zwift. We’ll see what price they present in March.

Well hello, virtual cycling enthusiasts! It’s great to see everyone diving into the wide world of virtual cycling—Zwift, IndieVelo, RGT, Rouvy, MyWhoosh, or whatever the next big thing might be. Variety is good, after all.

That said, let’s not lose sight of the thread’s purpose: Zwift (Indoor Racing and Training). Recruiting Zwift riders to join TrainingPeaks Virtual? Sure, it’s fair game—but let’s be real, it comes off a bit tacky to do so on a Zwift-focused platform. And honestly, if you’re exploring alternatives, MyWhoosh is a better choice than TPV anyway. (Just saying!)

Here’s a friendly suggestion: why not start your own thread—call it “TPV” or something and then promote to your heart’s content. Who knows, we might swing by to poach a few of your riders.

Sadly, only Admins seem to be able to start top level topics. Mere mortals can only start threads in existing topics.

Not sure any serious virtual racers are leaving Zwift anyway. Community is too big.

Kudos to TrainingPeaks for taking this seriously.

But didn’t Wahoo recently surrender their RGT ambitions to Zwift?

I loved RGT :) . It was halfway between Rouvy and Zwift. I still miss it. But, oh well, it is what is is. Life goes on.

Here’s the thing: Instead of hijacking our threads to poach riders, why not create your own space? We did the work to get Cruzbike to give us this spot, so maybe you could do the same. Or, you know, there’s always “The Coffee Shop and Bike Trends” section—perfect for off beat recruitment campaigns.

You can do it but It’s a bit tacky to pop in, ignore our on-topic conversations, and then drop the equivalent of, “Hey, forget this Zwift thing—come check out our Whatever it is Pedal Club™!”

So there have been 20'ish threads started in this 'category' in 2024 and the answer is to start a new category for each platform. Bonkers. What about, oh I don't know, a 'virtual cycling' category to inspire more chat on the topic in general.

Why all the hate, the forum is titled (Indoor Racing and Training).
LOL, no hate, posters are just being called out for being tacky. Thats "Zwift" (Indoor Racing and Training). Read the first post of the thread it explains the purpose. Zwifters use this thread for race reports and team information. The race passes are dispersed here for our non-facebook site users. This is actually an active thread. Many posts are deleted/culled as to not cause confusion between race weeks. The rub, not hate, stems from users coming on the thread to promote another app. That's fine they can do it but they can also be told it's tasteless. There are better places to promote /discuss the app.

Do fans in Recumbentland truly understand just how rare a Zwift racer on a Cruzbike Virtual Race Team (CVRT) is? Do they even realize how few recumbent cyclists there are in the world? Let’s break it down even further: How many of these brave souls own a smart trainer? From there, let’s narrow it down to those who even want to race with the CVRT. And of those, how many can connect and register for the events? The numbers are dropping faster than a recumbent rider going downhill.

But wait, it gets worse. These riders also need to show up week after week—which, might be the hardest part of all. So, when you finally find a Cruzbike racer, you’ve have gold, solid GOLD. This pool of racers is probably smaller than the number of world-class cyclists. So, if you have one, you’d better guard them— You can be sure there is someone out there trying to steal them away.

Bro. Hardy…I stand with you and support your argument. We constantly fight for every rider we can get and keep…and you Sir, work harder than anyone. Thank you for all your efforts. No attacks here on my part against anyone who feels differently.

Kindly addressed with a solution provided. Let’s move in that direction friends. This is the Zwift Racing Forum. Blessings…

I thought this was the right category for this thread. But since I apparently offended someone or someone is engaging in some very sophisticated trolling because they got up on the wrong side of the bed...

I think the category is named this way because Zwift was the first to gain popularity. Now there are more e-cyclists and more platforms to choose from. In Europe, Rouvy is almost equally popular. Why limit the category to just one product when the competition is often better and... free?

Offense might be too strong a word, friend. We’re all in this together. The recommendation is a simple fix and would actually help keep things sorted. Your thoughts and viewpoints are welcome.

Damien was accused of running a recruitment drive to poach riders from an esports team... for posting an indoor training discussion... in what seems like the most sensible subcategory on the forum for the topic. In his own thread, no less. Wrong category? Perhaps. But thread hijacking for recruitment purposes? Really?

If anything, I’d say some of the attitudes on display here might be part of the reason why riders are hard to find. Just a thought.

RayB, welcome to the CB forums. We’re glad you’re here. I think we’ve got this issue under control now so, perhaps we can all learn from the experience and move on? We’d love to invite you to join our Zwift Racing team we’re always looking for new friends.
