UK - recumbent bike

Hi all, I have a load of lower back and neurological issues which mean I can’t use a standard bike, but a recumbent bike seems to be ok. I’d like to find somewhere in the UK where I can trial a recumbent road bike. Does anyone know a supplier?

Hi,
There is no Cruzbike dealer in the UK. There might be dealers for other recumbents. If you want to try a Cruzbike, your best bet is to ask owners. I live in Harrogate, Yorkshire and am happy to give you the lowdown on the Q45. I've never ridden any other recumbent so I won't be able to compare but the Q45 ticks all the boxes for me. I got this one because I suffered from sciatica - see my review on the Q45 page - https://cruzbike.com/products/q45

Hi, I'm in Ireland so was in the same boat but just went for an S40 without trying any recumbent. I have fibromyalgia so was getting very uncomfortable on a diamond frame bike. The S40 is very comfy for me. I leave the house in pain and always get home feeling better. They are crap on steep hills and rough ground but otherwise fantastic. It did take me a while to get used to it but my body is pretty stiff most of the time. Having the S40 means I can still enjoy riding and I'm so glad I got it.

Boreen bimbler,

"They are crap on steep hills and rough ground..."

While I appreciate the comments in your post above, I do think that this comment should come with some specific details. What is your definition of 'rough ground'? A lot of 'rough ground' discomfort can be mitigated with different tires, lower tire pressures, and additional seat padding. And what is your definition of 'steep hills'? Many have in fact stated that they have few issues climbing except when tackling climbs in excess of 15 degree of elevation or in slick conditions.

I am not questioning your experiences just the fact that you as a new member, make very broad statements which could easily lead others new to and/or interested in Cruzbike to get the wrong idea. Again, I am not questioning your motive just your method.

The Cruzbike forum and its members are awesome and welcome every one but there is an expectation of mutual respect and consideration. I hope that your experience as a new forum member will be as wonderful as mine has been, over time. You won't find a kinder more helpful group of people anywhere. So ask questions you may be surprised.

And, welcome to the site!

Hi Always lernin (as we all are hopefully). Thanks for the welcome. It seems I over simplified, sorry about that.
As for steep hills I mean steep as in prolonged 15%+ or anything more than a very short 20%+ I suppose. The sort of thing I used to absolutely love and live for. I was a serial Everester and bit of a hill freak so always had a slightly different view on hills to most but have had to temper that the last few years. The S40 is fine on normal hills. And obviously road grip/conditions make a difference. I've spun out on 13% in the wet but had the tyres quite hard and might of made it with less pressure.
And "rough ground" is rough ground (un even, gravelly and potholed).....not sure how else to put that. I bimble around the boreens of SW Ireland where we have our fair share. I use 35mm tyres but still avoid some parts as it's just not enjoyable getting rattled around too much.
I have a fair experience 3,000km and am completely comfortable on it now. Lifelong bike person in various forms. I keep an eye on this forum but don't post that often.
Tim.

Welcome again! There are of course some roadways that should be called unfit for human consumption! Not much one can do about that unless you just go to a fat bike. :)

Thanks. Sounds like I need a trip!
One guy on the French ‘bent forum did order his S40 from him but I reckon Christophe from Roul’Couché only stocks Pelso, HP and Azub, maybe Performer. Better write or call before hand to describe your needs.
If you ever visit him, let me know, I live not too far.

Edit: I see on the website that the pricelist features Cruzbikes in first so maybe he did brought in a few Ss and Vs and Qs.
