Hello

I have build V20 for recumbent racer.

I have assembled as front compact crank(50-34) set and rear is 11-32 Cassette

Is it ok to uphill? Do you have any problem?

How do you think about its gear setting?

Hi jeong congratulations and welcome.

The gearing for your vendetta is as you would pretty much for your df.

So terrain dependant.

Close ratio flat lands to make the most of your thoroughbred steed.

With maybe the extreme ends covered more if you’re really climbing long big hills at low pace.

Uphill with a compact on the vendetta no problem provided I don’t get below 5 klm/ hr then stability issues arise.

Good thing about modern chainsets is the 110 bcd which means you can up the big chainring when you find 52 klm / hr on the vendetta is ready for a step up.

Enjoy and make sure you do all skill drills before you start to increase speed.

I run a 52/36-34 and 11- 32-36

I also run 53/39 and 11-25- 40

The low 1-1 ratios 39-40 is difficult to stay on form.......especially carrying a load or when fatigued.

Do you run 52/34 in the front? Is it hard or clunky to shift up or down? I ask because I have 50/34.

Yes 52/34 chainrings it was Shimano Ultegra mechanical groupset 6800 series 11 speed 110 bcd so easy change.it was originally 52/36. And it was perfectly fine changed just as well but I’ve always let off for any gear change front or rear. Then .......the lure to try shorter crankarms won out .

So I took out that crankset and fitted a short Cobb 155 mm with 52-36 but I now tend to avoid hills. I could find a 34t five hole ring for the Cobb but well I like flat these days.

A lot of it depends on what feels right for you as you climber. At 130 lbs. climbing has always been my strength. I run 50/36 chainrings with an 11-28 cassette, and after four years on a V have yet to wish for more gearing in the hills. I made the switch from upright already knowing myself as a climber pretty well. If I were coming into this less sure, I would probably start with a an 11-32 or 34, and adjust up or down from there, according to feel.

I am running 30-46 and 11-32 on a V20. Great for hills. Unfortunately, when ordering parts for my V20 build, I neglected to order some pro quality legs....
