Vendetta v.1 newbie question

I recently picked up a v1 Vendetta and cannot get that slider joint to slide so I can pull the pedals up a bit. I've read the instructions and loosened all the appropriate places but that boom in a tube is tight! Was able to pry the stress slot a bit and worked plenty of penetrating oil in there. Even with the pivot joint off I can barely twist the boom using the handlebars. Any tips or tricks? Thanks!

Sound like it is really stuck, and you are not the first one on a V1 to have this issue. The inner boom has probably slide all the way into the bend of the outer boom. I would probably get 2' section of 2x4 and put the edge on the outer edge of the boom. Then whack the end of the 2x4 - hopefully it will pop them loose. If you need the boom/slider about this short, once it gets apart - then cut off a couple of inches of the inner piece - then it won't get stuck in the bend again. Good luck

This happened to me on a v2. I had to take off the front triangle - built a jig to hold the bb end of the top tube, stood on that end and then pulled on some spare handlebars I installed in the other end. I got it loose with lubrication and steady upward pressure and the leverage of the handlebars.

like you - I could turn it just a little so I wiggled back and forth (small amounts) with steady upward pressure and slowly walked it out.

it was either out of round (at the end) or had a big burr on the cut end - I don’t recall- could have been both? :).

once I got it out (I was scared I never would) it had a track mark zig zagged all the way up the inner telescoping tube. I spent a long time going over that with some pretty fine sandpaper’s (started with a file on the big pieces) and smoothed it all back down.
After that it slid in/out pretty good. I definitely didn’t have to get it down as far into the tube again.

if there is a burr on the outer tube or rust, (Can’t remember the word for aluminum “rust”) that will take some other kind of tool to get that cleaned up.
Good luck!

The 2x4 trick worked for me. I tightened the clamp near the head tube to hold the handle still and loosened the lower clamp. Then I put the 2x4 on the tab that holds the light mount stub on the BB and had to give the 2x4 a few solid whacks with a rubber mallet. It is sturdy but still possible to bend. Heat expands metal so it might help if you use a small torch to heat it.

I like all of your solutions but there may be a better way. A brass instrument mouthpiece remover or similar. Basically it is two metal plates with a large slot into each so that it can fit perpendicular to the tubes to be separated. Pac man shaped sliders that allow you to adjust the size of the slot to the outer tube without gripping the inner tube. And the other plate rests against the mouthpiece/ larger tube. There are two bolts that spread the plates apart. The power to screw your tubes apart.

You might also try hot water on outer. Watch that paint and logo.
Aluminium oxide is a pig.
I love the torch idea - if it melts the tube - well ..... I am sure it will at least make a memorable picture for the forum!:eek:

Thanks for all the ideas. I just strapped the BB to a post on the deck and twisted/pulled on the handlebars until it came free. Only had to move it about an inch before it freed up. No oxidation it was just all the way in to where the tube started to curve. Cut off about two inches. Man is that boom soft! Used some wet/dry to smooth out the tool marks a bit on the boom just because. It could shine up nicely if you took it off and spent some time with it. Now it fits much better and I need to learn to ride the dang thing!

Good news. The old yella sighs with relief. Riordjr gives thanks.

yes if you take some metal polish and a buffing wheel the b b b bling is blinding.

the crown jewel of the family some would say.

soft . Nay . Just thin skinned ;)
