Spedicially i'm interested in how the front forks would/would not work.

Also, do these old Carbon bikes Break down over time?

thanks

Hi Sean,

The older carbon Trek Y-frames are pretty cool in their own right; started a lot of trends in the MTB world.

The fork is okay; what we're try to avoid there is the "triple tree" arrangement like used on motorcycles - those interfere with your knees.

The frame will require care where the seat mount bracket rides on the frame. You'll need to assure that the seat doesn't move around, and that no "steel-on-carbon" chafing can occur. Over time this could work right through the CF and break the frame, like a hack saw. You'll need to insulate the seat base clamp from the frame (a rubbe strip would do) for the same reason. The seat height might end up a little high.

Best,

Doug

That would make a nice conversion but I would be looking for a small frame unless you are really tall. Jack
