I built a "lazy susan" turntable for my Wahoo trainer. Since I am not a competent outside rider on my S30, my thoughts were that I could simulate riding outside by riding inside on the trainer, with much less danger of crashing. The last time I rode the S30 outside, after working for some time on parking lot and MUP exercises, I crashed it going downhill, and that had me so spooked that I stayed off the bike for 18 months.
Maybe the turntable works too well. It certainly feels unstable, in much the same way that I feel on the S30 on the road. I can't really crank it up on the trainer, and have to constantly pay attention to keep from falling over. Maybe what I need is a lock on the turntable, so that I can free it up when I am willing to ride slowly for awhile, and then lock it down when it's time to race.
For anybody else who has built a turntable, what is your experience? Does it simulate the MBB instability well enough to be useful in training your muscle memory? Do you feel like you need training bars to keep from falling over due to a moment's inattention?
