Affordable "Cruzbike" Short Cranks

Other than the trademark violation, these might work very well! I sent inquiries to multiple Chinese companies about making short cranks several years ago. Maybe this is the result.

Yikes. Having a crank bolt sheer off is bad enough, but deadly potentially on an upright where the entirety of the riders body is often bearing down on just the cranks - especially in an MTB situation.

Here in the US it would be a better bet to go with these on Amazon. Better securing method as well to avoid any shearing issues. Unfortunate name on these ones though. ;)

Maybe something with a steel/chromoly axle is safer. These ones by Goldix are even better! They are HollowTechII compatible.

The Sinz company makes compact/bmx cranksets from 115mm to 180mm. Not as cheap as these, but at around $60, still quite affordable. They can be used single or double with a 110bcd. Although I have a Sinz 130mm crankset, I prefer the 4 sets of 120mm SRAM crankset (used on 2 crank forward bikes and 2 recumbents) I purchased from BikeSmith Design. The quality of BikeSmith’s craftsmanship is excellent. In the past 15 plus years I have purchased from him about 10 shorten cranksets.

Ride long, ride hard, and ride safe!

Glad I found this post, I was looking at these crankarms exactly,
At this price I can buy 140mm and 160mm (and 5 bolr spider) and find out myself which works best

II’ve had a generic square taper 155 mm triple on my batchetta for a while, but went for a praxis zayante in 160 for my new v20.These are not a cheap option but their quality is as good as gets. I went with the 52/36 and a 10-36 rear… am still tweaking my build and learning how to ride it, but so far works ok..can easily either go for a 10-42 or 48/32 if it gets too hard uphill! The wheels I’m using have an xdr hub, I’m running 11 speed so using a spacer and a generic Chinese 10-36 …the major makers only make xd in 10-42 and bigger.

I got the Goldix 140mm's about a month ago and find them quite good on my Emeljaye'd T-50. My right knee no longer ever feels sore from pushing-off from a start in too high a gear. Better ergonomics all-around for me.

I went with a 44 tooth direct mount chainring, rather than a spider.

One day when I can afford an S40, I will be glad it ships with shorter cranks already installed, as was mentioned in another thread. :)

145mm? Great! I've only seen 140mm, 150mm, 155mm, 160mm on aliexpress. I had not seen 145mm though. It would be nice to include the aliexpress link.

So, after a few rides on my new cheap Aliexpress 145mm crankarms, I can have a short review:

The crankarms are solid strong and light (60g lighter then my shimano ultegra) I see no problem in buying Aliexpress crankarms what so ever.
The axel is 5mm wider (to fit mtb BB) so I had to use a 2.5mm spacer on each side, (also with out it, the 5 bold spider I got rubs against the boom a bit) so the spacer helps but it screw my chain alignment further outside...
the bike is uncomperable more stable then before (coming from 172.5 mm) i can keep pedaling hard yet calm even on very high speed without rocking side to side, and especially when pressing hard on the pedals getting out of a corner.
One more thing is that the short arms changes whatever gearing you have (to lower, mach harder gears)

Cons:
The short crankarm changes whatever gearing you have (I got 39x53 up front and 11x34 back) that was perfect, but I need to change rear cassette again, I actually even thinking going triple crankset as I suddenly can't climb the hills I used too..
Also, I kinda feel like im not pushing enough on the pedals, but maybe it's just something you need to get used to, and i need to adjust the boom again as 30mm are a lot...

All included, I'll take the benefits of stable, controllable, and safe behavior of the bike over everything (especially once I'll dial the gearing issue)
I can't stop thinking whether 165mm crankarms are a good compromise.. but that's for a different time.
