Ok so as you can see the handlebar attachment for the slider broke. It looks to me that is was made of cast aluminium. A strange choice for a high stress part. But there you go!
Full disclosure, I’ve had the S40 since 2017 and have really punished it. (I’ve made many posts here on the build and some adventures)
In any event a new slider 200USD and clamps 30USD plus frieght. Here in Sydney that would come close to 500AUD at my door. Too much for me.
The cut off bit is 46 grams and my home made replacement part is 92 grams so double the weight. Saving 500bucks for a net gain of 46 grams seemed worth it. Working on my mini lathe and milling machine is a hobby and this was a pretty interesting project mostly done by eye.
For those specific types, I started with a 2”X 2” cube of 6000 grade aluminium which cost me about 40AUD and spent a day milling, turning and making a mess.
I know… I could’ve, would’ve, might’ve (but didn’t) do it better. I’ll probably clean it up a bit though. I hope this helps someone.
Happy Trails.
