Natchez Trace Ride
I recently checked this ride off my bucket list. I chose to go with Cycle of Life Adventures. They did an excellent job of pampering the group of twelve guests.
The day before riding is a meet & greet at the starting hotel. Our first day riding started with a cold drizzle, but quickly dried up. By the time we got to the Parkway sign near the northern terminus, it was fairly pleasant.
Despite the constant headwind the ride was enjoyable, the roads are smooth, the drivers are courteous, and the scenery is splendid. The SAG wagon leap-frogged ahead, so we had water, snacks, picnic lunch, and opportunities to rest often.
Our lodging was off the trace, ranging from less than a mile to seventeen miles off. We could elect to ride or take the shuttle van at any time, so that wasn't an issue.
South of Florence, AL near the Mississippi border, we had to detour off the Trace because of paving & rehab work. It was an opportunity to experience even more hills and get chased by dogs, yay! This section should be opened by fall 2023, so it'll be smooth sailing then.
One minor blunder, our leader missed a turn after leaving the hotel in the morning on our way back to the Trace, so we had to take a make-shift on-ramp. This also caused us to miss a couple miles, so we can't be members of the EFI club. (Every Fun Inch)
No matter. I had been plagued by some tendinitis on one knee, forcing me to keep the power under 110 watts and by day 6 I was ready for an off day. This day 11 out of 12 chose to visit Vicksburg battlefield, either skipping all or half that day's riding.
The final day was amazing. After staying at a very nice B&B with top-notch food & service, we finally had a tail wind. After a photo op and a nice lunch, we walked around Natchez, Miss., then headed back to the start.
I would definitely consider using COLA again for any future trips.

They're still working on that? There was a section closed when we went through there last October, that was supposed to be finished Any Day Now.

Yeah. I recall Larry had to be driven around it when he did his 444 race. The NPS reports opening August 22. We’ll see.

they are redoing sections one after another, so the part closed changes some. of course they are way behind the original dates.
i rode last year right after larry. i arrived while the 444's were leaving. i rode south to north. great ride. would happily do this ride regularly.

I finally got around to editing some clips into a video from my 2024 Cycle North Carolina Mountains to Coast ride. Dave & Barb are fellow V20c riders, I didn't catch the name of the guy who rode the Q45.
Weather was a little colder than I would like, but at least there was no rain.

Bucket list: Ride around Lake Erie
This was my longest tour so far, sixteen days total. I know many have done much longer, but it’s a step up for me.
I took my V20c weighing in at 52 lbs. loaded. Everything packed into two frame bags and a 21 liter M5 tail box. It performed well with the comfort and efficiency I’ve come to expect.
The loop was to start and end at Buckeye Lake in Ohio, but due to severe flooding with road closures I was driven to a point further north to start. The route:
Day 1 was mostly on smooth paved rail-trail.
Next was a very pleasant day through northern Ohio followed by a short ride to Sandusky waiting for the ferry to Pelee Island.
I crossed a pancake flat section of Canada and rode along the Thames River, not planning to go all the way to London. The following day I arrived in St Thomas, a once busy railway junction where Jumbo the Barnum & Bailey Circus elephant was hit by a train.
This was my longest tour so far, sixteen days total. I know many have done much longer, but it’s a step up for me.

That's awesome Matthew! I love the way you have your V20 set up with the tailbox and toptube bags flipped and put under your seat. That is really a very clean and functional setup and what I would do for a multi day trip as well. Well done! How far was the ride in total?

Continuing on across Ontario I made it to Port Dover for a rest day on the beach.
Then on to Welland. A fellow Cruzbiker, Ben, joined me for lunch along my route. He was planning on attending the unofficial Cruzbike Retreat that Covid ruined.
