looking for riding tips with toe-clips or snap in shoes, general steering and uphill/downhill riding

Tried toe clips- nope I've been using spd's for years. When built my silvio, i put a pair of old platform pedals with toe clips on the bike. I wanted to be able to get my feet down fast. First ride, I used the side of the pedal without clips, and kept unintentionally lifting my foot off the...

    Sofrider seat back mods

similar material available in the us ACS10 is difficult to find in the US. I used 3 layers of http://www.ahh.biz/mesh/military/mesh_nylon_fabric_military_iotv.php to make a seat pad for my rans V3. It is available in 6mm/ quarter inch thickness. I put 400 miles on the pad...

    rode a metric today

I strung together a couple of my regular routes and came up with 62.5 miles (including an extra lap of the neighborhood at the end). http://www.strava.com/activities/145045908 Beautiful day. Sunny, a little breezy. Started out about 60F, finished in the mid 70's. I need a to...

    Silvio

some links that might answer your questions Long thread with lots of handlebar ideas http://www.cruzbike.com/bullhorn-and-dropbar-options My opinion: start with the bars that come with the Silvio. They are wide which is a good thing initially when you are first learning to ride an MBB and...

    SILVIO 2 SEAT

minicell foam I temporarily added a few pads to my seat cushions to take the weight off a bruised tailbone. I used 1/2" minicell foam. Minicell is a closed cell foam that is very similar to the pad in the stock seat. It's available from many online suppliers and is often used as padding in...

It's not too cold to learn to ride

finally crossed the 400 mile line Finally crossed 400 miles on the Silvio last night. I do a lot better maintaining my line now (instead of barely maintaining my lane). I still have to work on low speed maneuvers and high speed pedaling wobbles, but from 10-25mph, I'm very comfortable.

And in the lack of originality department... Here's Tim's adaptation of Eric's imitation of John's Idea. Eric's is shown in post 4 of Ratz's all wet thread http://cruzbike.com/hes-all-wet#comment-26097 and is immortalized in Sebring photos. I haven't seen John's version. My intent...

since you asked, Charles These panniers are smallish bags intended to carry water, food, extra clothing, tools etc. for long rides. I'm using them now to work out the bugs and because I don't have any better way to carry my water. Maybe a quiver/Munster boot rig would work. I got a lot...

Hanging the bag at an angle is a compromise. I should have said that it takes more suction to lift the water 18 inches from the pannier than it does to pull it from a reservoir mounted high on the seat back. It was a surprise the first time but is manageable if I'm not panting too hard...

A few accessories I've added Since the weather hasn't been as cooperative as I'd like, I've had a little time to play around and try to get things set up. Yes, I know the bike is dirty. 1- panniers- I made a set of panniers. I want to do a century this year and will need space to haul...

    Let's talk front wheel removal

I've had 2 front flats in the last week I've had 2 front flats in the last week. The first was on the road. I disassembled, swapped the tube, put the wheel back on and fiddled for quite a while trying to figure out how the chain somehow ended up on the wrong side of the cable. I finally got...
