New bike?!

I just got this email this morning. A4x - A for Adventure, 4x for an adjustable seat angle around 40 degrees? Or just marketing?
I wonder where this will fall compared to the existing line-up - a faster Q45? An S40 with suspension? I always hope for a V20 that can do some offroading, but that doesn't seem like what this is. I wonder what this bike will bring that the rest can't! What do you all think?

Probably not 4-wheel drive.
Given that the Cruzbike forum “Adventure Series” discusses the Q bikes, I think it’s a renaming of the bike. Probably with variable seat angle.

I guess this bike will be gravel version of s40

My prediction:
- gravel handlebar
- rear air suspension.
- adjustable seat angle
- 27,5 inch wheels

I would be interested if this is close to what S40 is today (in looks and ride).
Probably S40 with fatter tyres and some front suspension is what I think it will be.

My prediction is - With the extra VAT and shipping I'd have to pay I doubt I could afford another. :( An S40 with a little suspension would be a lovely thing. Maybe an elastomer (is that right?) type of thing may be enough. S40 extra comfort edition.
I'm looking forward to seeing whats coming out and we will find out in time.

Adjustable recline would certainly be interesting to me. Suspension? Not sure. There’s not a lot of gravel around me but I do have friends that are really into gravel riding. I’ve not yet joined them on the S40 but do have an extra set of 650b wheels that I could mount bigger tires on and might do that. I’ll admit two things have put me off: 1) potential wheel slip on steeper hills with gravel (there are a lot of those on the routes they do) and 2) not being able to get out of the saddle on bigger bumps as you can on a DF. Suspension would help with the latter.

At the end of the day though, gravel isn’t really my jam. I’m a dyed in the wool roadie that only rides gravel occasionally to ride with friends and am not sure I could justify buying another bike for those occasional rides.

But the adjustable recline is interesting if that’s one of their features. When I get on the S40 after riding my V20c it feels like I’m sitting way upright. If I could change it to e.g., 30 degrees I’d be pretty interested. Set it at 40 when riding with friends, 30 when solo would be pretty cool.

I've ridden my S40 on gravel and even dirt single track with 38mm tyres. It's surprisingly good until it gets very bumpy, rocky or rooty. And of course steep loose climbs are a no. A small bit of suspension would be great on the rough tarmac we have in our part of Ireland as it often creates a lot of vibration. Hence the 38mm tyres.

I hate teasers. Tell me or don't. But don't reach out to me to tell me you won't tell me…

Is it a bike for 4" wheel width? A boy can dream…

Would be funny if it was a quad. I just published (in the German recumbent and velomobile forum) my ideas for a quad with 4-wheel-drive, 4-wheel-suspension and 4-wheel-steering and one version would have had a moving bottom bracket.

Just hoping there is an electric option.
If not available from the manufacturer, compatibility will very probably be there. I do prefer to create a custom built on a frameset anyway.

Agreed. Builds some excitement though …

While a 4 wheel drive Cruzbike is very unlikely, I do find the idea interesting. Where is your write up?

I’m curious where they take this new bike. There is already overlap between the models and if you develop one that checks too many boxes, you jeopardize making one of the other models irrelevant. V20c, speed, S40, most popular because it’s a Swiss Army knife, Q45 has gotten a lot of push lately for being the ultimate adventure bike. We’ll see where this one fits in without affecting the sales of one of the other models too dramatically. Won’t threaten the V20c but the others? We’ll know soon.

Is that really a bad thing? One model that fulfills multiple roles, displaces multiple old ones can make manufacturing and logistics slimmer and cheaper. It will speak to customers, who want to do different things, but couldn't sensibly afford or store multiple bikes (multiple wheel sets are much easier). You'd only lose the opportunity to sell multiple bikes to the few people who would have multiple of yours.

But I wouldn't expect that. They talk about multy day tours in rugged terrain. So I would assume compatibility with wide knobbly tires and suspension as well as long time comfort and a good amount of carrying capacity for luggage. I could see it displace the Q45, but nothing else. They also say gravel, but general wisdom tells us, this very probably won't be as fast as an S40 or as cheap as a T50. I really dream of it being basically a MBB version of what the Tern Orox is: A fat tired long tailed mountain-cargo-bike. (I dream of that for a long time and am working on plans to get one custom built for a ling time as well. - Or a longtail and a fatbike seperately.)
I guess, chances are high, I am gonna be disappointed? xD

I would be surprised if there wasn’t some type of e-assist option available. There’s been so much discussion on the forum about e-conversions and other recumbent manufactures have e-assist versions in their line ups that the CB brain trust is not going to be left behind in that space. I have a suspicion @robertholler has been hard at work in his lab on this one! .

E for electric would make more marketing sense.
A for allroad is all the rage at the moment.

(In France a A on a vehicle is for Apprentice, watch out!)

So, the recent video defined 47-584 (650B 47mm) as the stock tire size. Todays mail casually mentioned 24" conversion.
Would someone who does that conversion for lower seat hight simply have to put up with greatly resuced trail or is any kind of mitigation planned? Should you reduce the shock length to lower the back and lean the steering backwards? Or would there be clearance to get the tires wide enough to not reduce the outer diameter? (47-584 would be equivalent to 28-662, 60-559 or 85-507 and I don't know any 507 tire that's 85 wide.* - that's 28mm for 28"/700C, 60mm/2.35" for 26" and 85mm/3.35" for 24".)

I am not short, so I won't need to lower my ride, but I'd appreciate to be able to swap between 28-622 and 47-586 (and maybe 60-559 if width clearance is there) depending on the day's ride.

*) I've now found VeeTire Speedster Fat in 89-507/24"x3.5". That's probably not a nice tire though, with just 26TPI and a focus on ebikes
