    Bending callipers?

    Thanks for the suggestions! I've checked the cable but I can't see anything obvious. I'll refer it to my LBS. Yes, I know the components are standard, I'm just drawing on the general expertise here. The pads were pretty worn; the groves had almost disappeared. I'm not sure about the...

    Bending callipers?

    I don't think they are, but my front brakes are behaving as though they are bending. Before I have squeezed them full on I have run out of cable, just as though the callipers were bending. I noticed this the other day riding to work when I had trouble controlling speed down a hill and had to...

    My First Real Sofrider Ride

    Yes, I feel much safer on gravel if I am applying pedal pressure, but if I have to slow I use the back brake as much as possible and try to avoid the front brake if possible. Also avoid any jerks on the steering; this happens to me sometimes when releasing cleats. -Ken

    My First Real Sofrider Ride

    Yes, I've become quite wary of loose gravel. I've managed to put my Sofrider down in loose gravel a couple of times and nearly done so on several other occasions. My right elbow has lost skin on both occasions and on one I also bent the front chain-ring. (Fortunately somebody coming behind...

    platform pedals

    I've got to unclip for slow, tight turns such as chicanes and U-turns on pedestrian/bike overpasses as I find that I have to rotate my feet a bit for these. If I don't unclip I tend to lose balance, on a couple of occasions with embarrassing results. I can't really see how its linked but when...

    Weird brake issue

    This story began yesterday riding home from work. On the very steepest part of a big hill I was working away in the lowest gear when suddenly riding got really hard and after a few turns of the pedals I cam to a complete stop. Initially I felt really pathetic as I've often passed people...

    Technique ideas for riding up steep hills?

    For some reason while riding home from work today I felt particularly strong and discovered a new sensation/technique while climbing a couple of big, steep hills. Previously when going up these hills I had been working my arms quite a bit as I pedalled hard. Today I found my arms were a bit...

    platform pedals

    Hi Gromit, Changing the pedals is not such a big hassle. My ideal solution would be pedals that are like those that came with my Giant Hybrid (which I swap with my Cruzbike) that can be used as platforms or with cleats depending on which side you use, however these pedals balance so that they...

    New Sofrider

    Hi Trevor, I've just posted on a similar topic over on the Silvio thread. See http://www.cruzbike.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2372 In summary, I'm using platforms around town and clipless for touring while trying to get "combo" pedals that default to platform but can be flipped for longer...

    platform pedals

    Hi Mark, I've got a Sofrider but have been working on this issue from a slightly different position. I really enjoy the "clipless" pedals for long, uninterrupted rides, but I'm increasingly finding that for city riding where there's lots of traffic lights, intersections, bicycle chicanes or very...

    RAGBRAI 2010

    For those on the Southern side of the globe (although Northerners would be welcome!) there is always the Great Victorian Bike Ride in Nov-Dec: 9 days 5,000 bikes. I'll be there with my Sofrider. See http://www.bv.com.au/great-rides/20004/ -Ken

    Contemplating a Switch from Mountain Bike to a Cruzbike...

    In my (limited) experience, when I first switched to the Cruzbike Sofrider I found really steep hills harder than on my conventional Giant Innova hybrid bike, but over a few weeks, as I am getting used to the Cruzbike, I'm finding the effort about the same. I suspect that in due course it may...

    New Sofrider

    Congratulations! I got my blue Sofrider in early January so I'm possibly just a little ahead of you and am having a ball. :D As for hill climbing, my commute home is on a bike path which passes through a very hilly section that the guide book describes as "Challenging". I only started riding...

    Cleats -> damage

    Upon closer examination the top of one of the teeth was missing so it had to go. I ended up with a fairly good 50 tooth ring instead of the 48. While I suspect the overall placing of the gears is not as good, I'm enjoying the little bit extra at the top end. I agree that a guard would...

    Cleats -> damage

    This morning I put on my one-sided clipless pedals and tried my cleats for the first time. Its mostly a big improvement with a noticeable increase in stability on the pedals (obviously), better pedalling technique and an all-round better feel. I was managing tight U-turns to the left OK but...

    First ride - New Sofrider

    Probably the best place to see a photo of the holes is on Doug's "Kit Happenings" Blog. http://www.cruzbike.com/content/kit-happenings. The 4th picture (If the frames do odd things you may need to scroll to the right to see the holes.) I'll see if I can get a photo of my rack but my decent...

    First ride - New Sofrider

    First ride home from work today. I'm impressed! :shock: I wasn't trying for speed, just a good, efficient ride, yet it was the 3rd fastest ride I've recorded! :D :lol: I still don't feel as strong going up the hills as on my standard bike and there doesn't yet seem much reserve for...

    Cruzbike kit wanted

    Speak to John or Kim T in either Perth or Geelong. I know Kim has a V2K kit frame and I guess John would as well. I assume that they would also have the conversion kit as well. -Ken

    First ride - New Sofrider

    Well I've had my first ride since getting my derailers sorted out. Thanks Kim! :) Anyway it is nice to focus on the bike and the ride and not problems. I've still got progress to make but tackled some seriously steep hills that are between home and work. On the first really big one, which...

    First ride - New Sofrider

    Well I had a further go at adjusting the chain tonight but I fear I have only made it worse. I'm beginning to suspect that adjusting derailers is really an art rather than a science, and I simply don't have it! Thankfully Kim is coming to Melbourne tomorrow and I hope he can make sense of it...
