    Qrings

Oh, except my legs are longer than medium, so that probably make my retard angle smaller, meaning my crank position at "highest gear" isn't as much earlier than the 45 degree point as I at first though when comparing to John's diagram, but I might still be a little earlier. - Mark

    Qrings

It's true there's only one angle you get to pick when you install the q-rings, and that's as you said, the orientation of the ellipse relative to the cranks. But there are other angles that affect that choice. One is what crank position you pick as the dead spot (I picked straight horizontal...

    Qrings

I'm not sure I understand the orientation of the cranks where John is asking for the angles measured from either, so I'll specify my setting differently, and I'm sure you can translate it. Looking at the right crank, I measured how many degrees counter-clockwise is the major axis of the...

q-rings work great (except for shifting)

I had been meaning to get back to this thread. I started fiddling with the little black piece that attaches to the frame and holds the derailler, trying to pick the right angle to use irrespective of what the frame would allow, and where I ended up holding it was very very close to the original...

q-rings work great (except for shifting)

Jonb/John: I suspect an internal hub would work pretty nicely, but $1500 for a 15 speed rohloff is quite a bit of money. As far as tension, I suspect (but don't know) that you could get by without a chain tensioner in a setup like that. I think John's comment about half the teeth always being...

q-rings work great (except for shifting)

I'm no closer to a solution yet, but I'm definitely going to stick it out and make something work. The silvio with q-rings is a keeper. My first few weeks with the silvio and round rings was good but not great. I had found it to be basically equivalent in every way to my strada (which has...

q-rings work great (except for shifting)

I've about got everything dialed in on my silvio now. The three main things I changed were 1. cut some 2 inch bacchetta foam for a new seat bottom: fixed the pain in whatever nerve my sit bone was directly on top of 2. 3/4 inch pedal extenders: so I can pedal toe-out without hitting the...

q-rings work great (except for shifting)

Now that I've slept, I'm realizing that description of angles doesn't make any sense. Moving the bb in/out shouldn't change the angle the derailler makes with the ring. But I can't find any adjustment on the derailler itself that would fix the angle. Any ideas? Hopefully I'll be able to take...

    new silvio ergonomics questions

I started to make a long writeup on my initial impressions of the silvio vs my strada, but I'm not sure why my initial impressions would matter. Better to wait till I'm more capable on it. So I'll just stick to questions. My biggest ergonomic question right now on the silvio concerns finger...

    Planning Ahead

Okay, now that I own a silvio, I've got a few wish-list items for future iterations. The seat bottom could mimic the euromesh2 design http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a139/nomo4me/IMG_0322.jpg which makes straddling the seat and reaching the ground more comfortable when sitting on the bike...

xseams and chain hitting derailler cage

Arghh, now that I've used up a few Mb of cruzbike's bandwidth, I just noticed there are two more holes down there that the derailler can be attached to instead of the top two. So, um, I think I know what needs to be done now. Jeez. - Mark

And three more. Forgot to mention, I kept the chain under tension for all the pics.

The cranks it came with are 170mm.. is everybody else using shorter cranks or something? - Mark

xseams and chain hitting derailler cage

To Mark: you mean the thing with the inch long hole where you can attach the derailler anywhere along it right? It's currently at the edge furthest from the bottom bracket in the direction toward the handlebars. If we call that the southernmost setting, it actually might be possible to go a...

xseams and chain hitting derailler cage

After getting lots of help from doug on putting my used silvio together, I rode my first few miles this evening. It'll take some getting used to. It's clear my muscles are all fighting against one another and not working at all efficiently yet. But I'm looking forward to comparing it to my...

This guy is selling one of the original 12!

Man, who does this "jeebus121" character think he is, just swooping in in the middle of the night and hitting "buy it now". Lucky devil, getting himself a bargain on a shiny new-ish silvio. I bet he's mechanically incompetent too and will be all over the forums here pretty soon whining for...

    Play in front fork

When I sat on brian's silvio I didn't notice any flex, not that I was pedaling with any force. My guess is that if there is any play in the fork then your weight on the seat already pushes it as far forward as it's going to go. I still don't like the sound of any play at all in that direction...

    Planning Ahead

I can't argue with some holes in the seat.. add some ventilation and reduce weight without giving up any significant amount of strength. And I definitely agree with not changing the ergonomics of the overall layout and seat height. All that is a big win exactly as is. I doubt there are any...

    Planning Ahead

I finally made it to the same ride that Brian Lewis goes to in plano and got to see his silvio in person. I was very impressed; that is one sharp looking bike. At the start of the ride I made a brief attempt at riding it and only managed about 20 feet in a straight line. Then after the ride...
