    Silvio in Idaho Falls, ID

I've got a recently completed Silvio [equipped with the Campy Centaur pkg from the Cruzbike website] available to test ride (if I'm not out riding it) in Idaho Falls, ID [Southeast Idaho area]. I'm running Cane Creek eggbeaters, in case you want to bring cleated shoes. I can also provide...

    Will my bike parts work?

This comment specifically addresses the 700C x 32 tires: On my Silvio, with the xerolite wheels, I'm running 700C x 28 Gatorskins. These have only 1.5 to 2 mm vertical clearance to frame or brake parts (depending on front or rear). I doubt that 32's will fit, unless they have dangerously thin...

Silvio seatback mod (for taller riders)

I am 6'2" tall & have a Silvio with just over 500 mi on it. The seat back on the Silvio is the same stamping used on the other Cruzbikes & in the kit. The seat back angle is fixed at 45 degrees due to the structure. Unfortunately, the narrow seat top neck hits me right in between the shoulder...

    Rear Brake Cable Routing

After reading the suggestions about thread & a magnet. I decided to try thread & vacuum. I taped off all the openings except the inlet & outlet. This worked OK to suck the thread through, but I had problems migrating from the thread to the cable. After investing 30 minutes with no success, I...

    Brag about your Silvio weight

another data point: My newly completed Silvio also weighs 27#. I don't have any bags or other storage yet. It is built up with the Campy kit, origin 8 bars & Xerolite wheels offered on the website. I am running 28mm Gatorskins to cope with the rougher Idaho roads. I weigh in around 205#.

    Jerusalem Conversion

He was an character/actor on the 70's TV show "Laugh In" who would pedal a small child's tricycle to a stop & then fall over to the side. (It is synonymous with a classic zero-speed crash.)

    recombinant cruzLike

This is a conversion of a conversion of a Next kid's 20" dual suspension 21-speed BMX bike. The 1st conversion was a SWB modification with a front boom, crossover drive & sling seat on 1/2" EMT seat frame. Although it rode fairly well due to a step-up ratio on gthe crossover drive, the steering...

    recombinant cruzLike

recombinant cruzLike [part 2] Originally, I was planning to use the Cruzbike kit on the conversion of the 1st modification, but almost nothing fit without extensive rework or buying more conversion parts, so I just built it in the same style as a Cruzbike, chopping, splicing & welding. I did...

    high pressure tires

For the past 5 years, I've been having good success with 26 x 2.1 Kenda K-RADs from either Performance or Nashbar. On sale, they're in the $12 range. I run them at 80 psi. At 210#, I get on the order of 3000 to 3500 miles before they're worn too much (& I start getting a few flats). My commuter...

trek y-22 for donor? Picture included

Re: trek y-22 for donor? [Y-11 lessons learned] 1) You don't want to drill holes in a CF frame unless you add some sort of reinforcement or boss to distribute the load. Point loads are very bad and cause catastrophic failure. You need to distribute the load over the greatest surface area...

Best way to transport a laptop...

I've been using a WaterField (http://www.sfbags.com) 1st generation RacerX bag (with mountain bike grip) to transport my 17" macBook Pro. The bag has a molded plastic case in addition to the inner padding for the computer compartment. I use a single bungee looped under the front lip of the rack...
