Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

Wow. 1. 'Speed wax' is a ripoff. It works, of course, but still ripoff. (But if you ignore the instructions and reuse it indefinitely like it is supposed to - it is less of a ripoff). 2. Titanium chains are also a huge ripoff, but at least you do get some weight savings (rather insignificant...

    Converting QX100 to NuvinciN360

Just got the tensioner in today. Came from the UK. Had to change the spring to the other hole to make it work with vertical dropout. I have a Contrast brand chain tensioner. I did change out the pulley to a ball bearing pulley I had. Waiting to see how a 39-tooth ring will work. I have...

I have two chains. One goes in the slow cooker with plain old paraffin wax from Amazon when I have used it a while. I take the hot chain out of the cooker after a while, let it cool, and store it until the other chain has been used for a while. Then swap and cook again. Simple and easy.

I have heard folks talk about waxing. Do you have a favorite website explaining the process? In the past I shook a black squirt bottle with liquid Teflon juice and doused the chain a couple times per season. Something tells me this is not how Cruzbikers do it. I am ready to learn a new way.

I got the KMC "opener missing link" tool and wouldn't want to live without it. Even got the KMC "closer missing link" tool which is not as necessary but a nice luxury. Um, Hoyden, have you considered waxing your chain?

Please confirm that chain is not passing through the rear derailleaur in that picture; IF it is going through the derailleur then it is way way too long. You need to disconnect that master link and un-thread the chain from the derailleur and mount it on big/big to do the sizing. Those "one...

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

Waxing chains is a real time consumer for me. Removing the white waxy residue with a toothbrush from all of those crannies and buffing the side plates inside and out by hand takes me forever. Sure, the waxed chain gleams in the sun, but it's just not for me. Happy April 01....

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

Once you wax and get your system down; it's really hard to do anything else. For the fast bikes I always have a chain ready to go for a swap in; one on the bike and one in a zip lock bag. This year I'll probably start doing all the other bikes that have master links; just do them overnight. A...

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

I searched through our forum for any posts on these chains. The MoltenSpeed Wax company that I get my wax from for my chains keeps telling me that I need to ditch my KMC chains for the YBN chains as they are substantially better. https://moltenspeedwax.com/pages/about-ybn-chains The "titanium...

I sense a disturbance in the 3rd Law

My Last big post omitted some research. I'm admittedly a KMC chain guy but I did spend some time re-researching chains. In the end it came down to Wippermann or KMC. I decided to stick with the proven KMC. I've used master links far more than they are every recommend to (because of waxing the...

What I learned building out a pair of 2016 V20 Vendettas

You can order bulk chain from the Bacchetta site. Ten speed KMX is $70 for 11"8' of chain. Pretty good deal and only one break in your chain line.

What I learned building out a pair of 2016 V20 Vendettas

I thought I was the only one to use more than one chain in a waxing rotation. Used to use three chains, but now use just two, as chains are not exactly cheap. I was wondering whether a standard chain would be long enough for a Vendetta. On the QX100, a standard SRAM chain is just long enough.

What I learned building out a pair of 2016 V20 Vendettas

To get more reliable shifting and chain wear; I'll use 3 chains to make 2 (or 5 to make 4 for a waxing rotation);. Going with that approach I crack the chain is such a way that the master links are more opposite each other on the chain circle. When the master links are as close as pictured here...

    New V20 build input

No probelmo Rick! I have found that chains last longer when properly cared for, and the easier they are "used". I rode a single chain on my first V2 for almost a year = 11-12K miles. It was only then that it failed via the chain test tool. By riding "easy" I mean very few wattages over 500...

Possible to mod for gates carbon drive and internal hub?

Larry turned me on to waxing the chain, thanks Larry. Absolutely love it. No more chain tatts. I've got a few hundred miles on the chain now, can go out and wrap my hand around the chain...no grease, dirt, or scum. Best thing I've tried, other than Dark Chocolate :p
