Boom sock - work in progress

ratz, jim parker did tape test of enclosing the rear triangle enclosure, see his recent post about giro air attack and other variations. easy to fabric enclose that area, or better, heavy gauge plastic film carefully taped to avoid wrinkles. all of this certainly makes the v less asthetic.

Boom sock - work in progress

i agree robert. then again, tom traylors bikes have had fully faired boom (actually sheet metal/cfrp structures) - i wonder how they were to ride. if full boom socking is no good, at least fairing of the messy area ahead of and including head tube, cables and boom cage holes should be...

Boom sock - work in progress

@battleaxe re extending down over the fork/chainstay area isnt appealing for couple of reasons 1. the top spokes entrain air as they move forward. this airneeds a path to escape. extending fabric down would mean, the onlyway out is forward = more drag. 2. one could extend a support down from...

Boom sock - work in progress

I was looking for cheap, simple, light and removable aero cleanups to the bike. Yes a fairing blah blah, but that's a big project and makes the bike almost impossible to put in a car. The vendetta boom hits the air, then some bits of cable and the hole under the boom, then the head tube, then...

XQL Q-rings .vs. Reg Q-ring .vs. Circular Chain Rings

Hey Larry, how much difference to your CdA do you think the trispokes are compared to say your deep (are they 70 or 80mm) rims (how many spokes?)? I have an old powertap wheel - unfortunately a lot of spokes by current standards (32 - but at least it stays true!), and did some laps on a track...

    vendetta evolution ideas

The rear frame doesn't need to be stiff, so if done in carbon with or without a rear monoblade (the benefits of monoblade are probably a bit less on the back end since it's not in a clean airflow any more, however there is also the benefit of allowing half the airflow which gets entrained along...

    coasting to work

Just a short and wordy post to celebrate riding my vendetta, it's fun! living at the top of a small hill, I have a very nice and quick ride to work, just a couple of km. It is of course much too short to justify riding the vendetta, but I have little spare time so I ride it just to keep my...

    Cruzbike Community jersey top

My friends Tim and Sandy do custom cycling clothing. They are based in Nelson, New Zealand but they sell all over the world. They're not super fussy about the graphics as long as it's a vector graphic (not bitmap/raster type). http://www.tineli.co.nz/...

    Vendetta V2 (Large) for sale

wowowow! somebody is going to be a happy buyer. High altitude riding at boulder must give a chance for some seriously speedy time trialling (if there is anywhere flat enough - I have no idea about Boulder's geography other than I assume the altitude. Good luck with either the sale or (better)...

    vendetta evolution ideas

yep, good call. the crankset is an aero mess on most bikes. I guess even a thin plastic plate could be cut onto match the exact size of the big chainring, perhaps two or three cable ties in place, with a slot for the crank (a plate with some dish would mean less of the crank exposed.) could...

    vendetta evolution ideas

I do enjoy my vendetta, and don't ride it nearly enough to justify thinking about how it could be a more efficient bike. Nevertheless, I keep having ideas about how to improve on the vendetta. I don't have enough spare time or skills to execute them, but thought they might entertain the...

jon's v2 the second last yella story

I thought you had a vendetta in the stable Mr Ratz. Good to see that N is apparently at least 7 in you part of the world. But would a vendetta make it N+1? :-)

    Bicycle stability (2)

revised model I redid the models with measurements from my own vendetta 1.5 and careful weight estimates based on wall thicknesses. Robert also sent me weights for V20 parts and my estimates were close. The big issue with the model is how much coupling there is between the rider's legs and...

Any plans for filing a smooth Any plans for filing a smooth bevel and putting in bar end plugs to make the handlebars a bit less "core sample-ish"? Would hate to hear about an injury! Full marks for effort on the tailbox, hope it makes for some extra speed (and maybe some convenient...

    Breathing technique on Silvio

That makes sense.Would be That makes sense. Would be interesting to see if one could actually feel any changes to stability by starting with a V with a very light crankset, then gradually adding ballast (say wrapping a bit of lead foil around the end of the boom). I'll also have a...

    Breathing technique on Silvio

stability analysis The linearized stability equations which I ran seemed to indicate best stability when the front end swinging inertia (i.e. th boom, chainstays, crankset and whatever is fixed to them (i.e. to some extent shoes, feet and lower legs) is minimised. Trying to make feet really...
