When the weather is this good

360 video ball. Saw one on TV that had, like, 32 cameras mounted in a ~12" sphere. Had an 'apogee' trigger that caught full sphere shot at peak of toss. Burst mode, stitched into video...very neat. I think they had a helmet mount...

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

I know I don't have to worry about Miz Diane. If she had witnessed...call 911. She'd have laughed until she passed out. :D

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

Slowly I turned. Step by step...inch by inch! The UPS guy cometh!! Got my 'large' chainstay yesterday. Stacked on the box (which was standing on end on my front porch) was a package with one rear brake (TRP hy/rd + 140mm disc) and another box containing a SRAM 'yaw' front D. I'll probably be...

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

I found the other 27 x 1-1/8 wheel. This set was for an old 10-speed Bro' Don was ressurecting. Velocity rims, Bontrager tires. An oblique shot of the prototype box I put together this morning. Just a rough shape at the moment. Miz Diane may be able to sew it up out of some stiff nylon...with...

    Slow Ride

I was up at 0500 this morning, on the road at 0600. I changed my standard route just a little bit and did some minor climbing. I still appear to be stronger than I was back in 2012 when I got off the bikes. Same bike...and I'm essentially the same weight I was back then. I dunno what happened...

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

I couldn't let it sit there in the living room as a box of parts. Need to find a front wheel to put in as a mock-up. Chainstay (large) was shipped separately...not here yet. I ended up missing the two little clamps (and screws) for the back of the seat to the headrest. I need to email Robert...

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

Yah...mine is in the stand on the back porch (screened in)...assembled as far as I could go...with an old 27" wheel on the back (I don't have a QR front to throw on there).

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

I do have a RM...somewhere. However, I am far more attuned to the ways of a BFH (which shall be locked away for this build).

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

I don't have all the components yet. Wheelset is probably a couple of weeks out, gruppo is on its way via ebay. Brakes are still unpurchased...but in negotiations. I'll probably start a "build" thread but I'm not all that good at documentaries. Once I start, I get it done...photos after...

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

I guess it depends on what you mean by "completely". I've never degassed any brake fluid...ever...but I've never had to. If I were routinely driving on the edge, racing, etc., ...different story. In order to really degas it, you'll need a hard vacuum...and yup, a cheap pump probably ain't gonna...

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

I'd find an old-school pressure cooker, the kind that has a weight to manage steam pressure. Toss out the weight and attach vacuum hose to the fitting (or remove & replace the fitting). Get a cheap vacuum pump from auto-parts store (hand pump for vacuum bleeding brakes, I have one for my 55...

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

Better to turn the pressure cooker into a vacuum chamber. Just a little vacuum will get all the air out of the solution (and chain), which will be replaced by wax. Much safer!

    Uh oh...V20 back in stock!

Hmmmm... Pink slip from USPS in my mailbox: tried to deliver a box today but nobody home. Slip is marked "BIG", I suspect it might be from prowheelbuilder.com...they're in Gawgia, not too far away. Hope disc hubs, Deep V rims, sapim spokes (x32)...should be berry, berry noice! Now...need other...

The Low Down on Carbon Bike Tech.

Yah, interesting indeed. Same old story though: properly made = good, poorly made = bad. Similar learning curve when aluminum frames hit the market. I like the idea of having a carbon frame scanned for defects. Wouldn't surprise me if manufacturers started including a 'scan' sheet or similar...

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

I'm really a chain-lube philistine. You really don't want to know how long I go between applications. However, I think I'm going to give the wax dip a try for the Vendetta. I have a block of wax around the shop somewhere. I was just being silly about the beeswax, too sticky even...

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

KMC makes a master link that is Shimano-compatible. http://kmcchain.us/connectortype/11-speed-ml/ edit: I love reading lube-wars. Best lube is the one that you will actually use. It is a lot of fun experimenting with additives, of course. My favorite is beeswax and olive oil...smells good and...

    SRAM brifters, rear D, etc...

Cool. I used to be a line supervisor in a large machine shop. It was very nice to have all the tools to make goodies like that. Those days are long gone for me. However, I have had some parts made by 3D printing recently. I was amazed at the cleanliness of the finished product. I only had to...

    SRAM brifters, rear D, etc...

There's two rollamajigs on ebay at the moment, one grey plastic version and one of the earlier aluminum ones. I might snag an aluminum one, just to have on the bench in case I need it someday.

    SRAM brifters, rear D, etc...

Roger dodger: 2x10. Having been a hot-rodder my whole life, I have no troubles with mix 'n' match. I went out to the jtek site and it appears that the Shiftmate 9 would make the SRAM Road brifters work with the SRAM MT rear D. Finding a Shiftmate 9 is a whole nuther kettle of fish. I've used...
