What's on your feet - talking cycle shoes

I sort of wonder how I'd like the shoes you've mentioned over the past year, though they are more than I wished to spend. However, there is absolutely no way I'd buy shoes (cycling or not) without trying them on. I tried around a dozen pairs of cycling shoes last year and only one model felt...

    My practice ride - video

quickbeam: you look better than I do at slow speeds, and I've got thousands of miles under my belt. I probably should do more slow speed practice (though I did do some figure eights at the end of a recent ride). I get a lot of "cool bike" comments from all ages, but kids are definitely more...

Diet: Low Carb and Ultra Cycling

Geeze, I don't think I can be pushing my pedals and keep my HR under 120. Heck, I went for a ride last week where I tried to keep my effort low enough to stay under 140 bpm.

    2016 Calvin's Challenge - who's going??

But.... doesn't that mean he need's a white Vendetta? Alternately, he needs a BIG BRAIN decal.

    Flipped by a Vendetta

In emergency, almost never a good idea to put an appendage (foot, leg, hand, arm) out, it's a good way to break bones. If bike falls you'll probably get scraped up and bike might get bent, but better than breaking. I've had front wheel slide out due to unexpected sand going at 30+ mph resulting...

My Neck Rest is better than Yours.

Turn & brake signal lights, what an idea!

400 lumen tail lights! I wouldn't want to be riding behind you when they're on.

Diet: Low Carb and Ultra Cycling

I assume you meant clarified butter. Clarified butter is just the butter fat, with most or all of the water and milk solids removed. The Indian version (not quite the same thing) is called ghee. Here is a recipe. My first attempt (very recent), I burned the milk solids, next time I'lll have to...

    Shine on you crazy diamond

Jason, have you ever tried a headlight with a shaped light distribution, like many of Busch&Mueller's or Philip's? I'm pretty happy with my Philips 80 lux LED Bike Light's light output, just not happy with the power situation on it. I'll probably modify mine to use an external power source one...

What did you do to your Cruzbike today?

Finally did some basic maintenance so I can confidently ride my CruzBike Conversion Kit bike. Thorough cleaning, especially the drivetrain, then lubrication. I guess I'll try wax lube some other time. Replaced all brake pads; the old pads looked like wedges. Shortened cabling so much neater...

    Beginners Pedaling Stroke

Excellent point. When I was starting out, I was having problems with the handlebar rotating under stress (basically when I was climbing a neighborhood hill I was pulling on the bars pretty hard). It turns out the steerer riser clamp wasn't tight. I kept on checking the stem clamp but it was the...

My Neck Rest is better than Yours.

There is a belief on BROL that Ventisit material is ACS-10. The whole class of materials are often called expanded or spacer mesh . If you just want the fabric, try a specialty fabric store (like American Home & Habitat) or ebay. ACS-10 specifically doesn't seem to have a US distributor.

    Mark's V20

No need to pedal => no pedal induced wobble. Also, road was in good shape and fully suspended donor bike (Trek Y 26). Just before the end of the video you can see some wobbling, the bunch of parked cars are pretty much at the bottom of the hill so I almost immediately have to start climbing again.

Whoops, I forgot that factor of 60! RPM != RPS

Looks great. Your rack and fender hacks look better than mine.

I sense a disturbance in the 3rd Law

50 Hz does not strike me as a high sampling rate. However, as long as your cadence isn't near 50 or 100 rpm (in which case aliasing might produce some interesting measurement artifacts) it'll probably average out ok over a few seconds.

    Mark's V20

Ok, I've uploaded some video. Coasting down Skyline Drive at Shenandoah National Park, 35-40 mph. This is the first big descent in this Strava activity.

    Mark's V20

On my conversion kit bike the steering was twitchy for me for awhile, about 18 months later I was coasting down hills at 40 mph at Shenandoah National Park. What a blast, but I was a bit nervous.

    S30 compatible cranksets

Aren't bottom brackets relatively inexpensive? Perhaps instead of striving to find a crankset that works with the bottom bracket you have, you should be looking for a crankset & bottom bracket (if necessary) that meets your needs at a cost you can live with. Note that bikesmith design sells FSA...
