An S40 update 350 miles in

The curved slider has a lot to do with the rider's height and the length of the chainstay. At 5'5" I use the short chianstay, and by the time I adjusted it to where I wanted it for my x-seam, the handlebar was too high for my liking. It even obstructed my view. Using the medium chainstay...

    Fenders for 2020 S40?

Hi Jack, Ah, yes. Plastic doesn't squish so well. I am using Velo Orange Zeppelin 52mm fenders. Any aluminum fender should squish just fine, even with pliers. I am certainly familiar with the work-with-what-you-got code. Good luck, MacGyver. You got this.

    S40 Seat Adjustment - Steps

Pay attention to knee pain. If it is at the front or tops of your knees, your feet are probably a little too close in. If it is at the back or underneath your feet are probably a little too far out. Make small adjustments, like 2mm at a time, until there is no pain.. Hand position is more...

    Fenders for 2020 S40?

Hi Jack, I also have a 1st generation S40, running 650B wheels with 38 tires and a wide fender. I marked where the fender crosses through the fork, took the fender to my bench vise and put a slight inward bend between the marks by giving the fender a little squeeze. It didn't take much and it...

Searching out the limits on the V20.

Two particular days on my V stand out to me with this conversation: the day a dude opened his car door right as I was on him, and I managed a hard swerve around him using both hands and feet to steer, was the day I realized that somewhere along the way handling the bike had become instinctual...

    Perfect handlebar for a V20

You're both right. On the S30, the bracket is screwed to a connector plate that joins the stays to the main frame. On the V, the bracket is clamped to the stays. Robert's advice is good. I put slightly padded tape down first, and then tightened the screws just...tight...enough. No more.

    Flat

If you have a front flat on the V, it's no guarantee that you'll go down. I've had one front blowout on a twisty downhill, and while it was a bit scary, I was able to slow down, pull off, and stay upright. In this case, I noticed that the tire tread was pretty thin and something in the road...

    V20

My V was my first Cruzbike and first recumbent. After 27 years on an upright, the learning curve was pretty steep for me. But while learning, I only spilled five times, and all of them were either stopped or at a super slow speed. Minor scrapes for me, but the bike came through it all just...

Making progress learning to ride hands free

It will fall into place. It took me about 1000 miles before riding the V felt completely natural. Just keep at it.

    S40 Electric Blue Build Specs

My two cents: I have been running Shimano Dura Ace 9000 drivetrains on my V20 and S30 for years now with no shifting issues ever, front or rear. I like close gear jumps and run 36/50 oval chainrings and 11x28 11-speed cogsets on both. Again, shifting has given me no issues after many...

    Perfect handlebar for a V20

I agree, but it's only a fair weather setup. Northern California's weather is nice enough across the year that I can be choosy about when I ride. I see pics of what some of y'all ride through--rain, snow, freezing temps--and I have two conflicting thoughts: better them than me, and what a...

    Perfect handlebar for a V20

I haven't done any such testing, but once I'm rolling I can't say that I notice it down there. I teach high school and roughly every other day I commute to school with the bag, and then leave it at school to go for a 30 to 40 mile ride (I call it "taking the long way home"). Every now and then...

    Perfect handlebar for a V20

Yes. It's from a Topeak Beam rack (the slider minus the beam). The corresponding bag is just big enough to allow me to commute to work, but the rack is minimal enough that when I go for a real ride it's almost like it's not there. I have one underneath my V as well.

    Perfect handlebar for a V20

Hi Bentas, Yup. I'm 5'4" on a good day. It took a bit of doing to get proper fit, but with the short chain stay and curved slider I got there.

    Perfect handlebar for a V20

Here's a technical drawing for the Genetic Digest bars. I know it says Satori, but the numbers are the same. Probably the same manufacturer. I use the 440 width (they also come in 480).

    Perfect handlebar for a V20

My favorite handlebar is the Genetic Digest Flared Drop Bar (funny name, but I like the fit). You can find pics with a Google search. Here's a pic of it on my S30. I like the slight bend at the end of the drop, which gives my wrist a place to rest or added stability. I have these on my V20...

    If this is Recumbutt...

For me, recumbutt is simply a mild muscle pain in the glutes while riding that happens because I am sitting on muscles, or supporting my weight with muscles, while also using them. It goes away when I get off the bike. But seat recline also plays a factor. I have zero recumbutt while on my...

An S40 update 350 miles in

Hi Jack, The more upright seat on the S40 does make the curved slider less necessary, but the S40 also has a longer steerer tube than the V20 and S30, which puts the bars up higher. Some people don't like to cut their steerer tubes down, partly to maintain resale value, and partly out of a...

An S40 update 350 miles in

I am 5'5", with about 5 years of CB riding on a V20, S30, and S40. I have the short chainstay on all of them, and it made an immediate improvement on bike fit, putting my feet more in line with my torso than my head. I also use the bent slider on the V20 and S30. Both are good changes for us...
