    UMCA Across Washington N to S - 2015

Lief - One question: why so early of a departure? 4:30am? You are definitely strong enough to be able to complete the entire trip in daylight, so just curious why you are leaving in the dark? Just hedging your bets a little maybe? (I guess I would start in the dark than leave in the dark)

    UMCA Across Washington N to S - 2015

Way to go Lief - I can't wait to here your ride report! Awesome! I tried some "tracking" thing on Garmin while in Sebring - but it did not work. I would love to follow you and encourage you. Let us know if you find out some "tracking" system. What is your "estimated" goal time. I see the...

    V20 full build ordered

Congrats Alan - A fantastic bike and choice. Just being on it will make you want to build your fitness. You will just want to ride and ride and ride! Can't wait for the pictures of the new V, and also reports of you learning to ride it!

    Larry's Ride report from 2015 12 hour Calvin's Challenge

No I didn't, but that would be a great thing to do. I'll have to remember to try that for next time! Great idea!

    New Vendetta V20

This thread has some really cool quotes: 'old-fashioned' bike = handicapped. You can let them start half-way up the hill and still catch them. The V - the perfect rock-n-roll bike! I'll take you up on that Joe - where do you live - I'll be right over... :)

    Larry's Ride report from 2015 12 hour Calvin's Challenge

Yes - it is amazing how close those pros get. I think it is a little easier to get closer on DF, mostly because of the visibility. Way to go Aussies! Just think how much faster they would be if they got off those "old-fashioned" bikes and onto a recumbent! :)

Possible to mod for gates carbon drive and internal hub?

Fred, why are you done with chains? I thought I was - mostly because I just hated all the grease - I briefly looked into belt-drive systems too, even had a totally belt-less internal gear system. Lost too much wattage. It was nice from the "clean" perspective, but they still wear and have to be...

Hi Joseph, I was looking around UMCA site and stumbled upon the 24 hr race in Middleville in June. I see you are registered for it. Congrats! How long have you been riding the V? What are your goals for the 24 hour? Have you ever done one before? Me only one, Sebring and I did not fair to well...

    Vendetta finally tested

Great!!! - Yeah you will need a power meter to do true testing, but I too instantly felt that 150 where nicer for me than 170's. Best of all they will treat your knees great!

Self motivation is a good thing

Ratz, send congratulations to Tanya for me, and pass this along: I heard that Maria will not be riding at the 24 hr National Championship in Middleville, Michigan on June 20, as she will be crewing for someone on RAAM. So , Cruzbike needs a female recumbent in the race! You should enter it! -...

    New Vendetta V20

Hard to tell without some real data. Have read there is up to a 40% savings of drafting with a DF bike. Might assume it would be the same, but since the V is so much more areo, there might be less. One thing for sure - it is not easy to to get "as close as possible" to another V. You feel as if...

    New Vendetta V20

Joseph - That is quite some speed you can generate! Way to go! Next plan: Mount front and rear facing cameras so you can record a mix together a nice video of it! Drafting a V: IT is almost unfair really, because a DF can't really get a decent draft off a V. Basically if they can't ride as fast...

    Larry's Ride report from 2015 12 hour Calvin's Challenge

I don't think the effect of the peleton is that much. In my testing, I can usually maintain 25mph on about 200 watts with those wheels. When I recently did a 100K on an enclosed track I was able to maintain close to 27 on about 230. So, I would say I had not stabilized yet, and in essence had...

    New Vendetta V20

Joseph - Second Rick's remarks. :) Eventually all DF's are victims to a V - feels so great to pass them almost effortlessly! (Ric has some great video footage of that) But, I like you, prefer the give and take, the ebb and flow - let them pass you every once in awhile and then return the favor...

    Vendetta finally tested

Yes, SRAM Apex are easy to do. I have a set of 150mm, and 140mm. I have not ridden on the 140mm very much, but intend to experiment with them this year. They may work better for flat TT than the mountains around here, but I am not really sure. I will post my results of my testing though when...

    Vendetta finally tested

Rick, I only hope that I can come there one day and ride them with you! Keep working on that Cruzbike Bunkhouse! Yes - Tarheel county - Actually Asheville Area. Biltmore House: Blue Ridge Parkway. Mount Mitchell, etc, etc

    Vendetta finally tested

Hey - Thanks: Matěj, now following you too - Nice to put that Starva name with the Cruzbike name/avatar. Sounds like a nice "upgrade" we can ask for on this forum: Matching Strava and Cruzbike entities! All these questions about seat angle, etc. Be sure to dial in your boom length, and leg angle...

    Larry's Ride report from 2015 12 hour Calvin's Challenge

Ratz, I've got room to carry 5 bottles and can easily go about 5-6 hours on them, but we decided I should only carry 2 to lighten the load and always take 1 every 25 miles and have one for backup. Of course I lost the backup on lap 3 - bummer. I'll need to improve the quiver to hold them better.

    Larry's Ride report from 2015 12 hour Calvin's Challenge

Thanks Lief, Abbott, Bruce, Ratz, Rick, Yes the hand-off did not go well, but the fault was mine - I told Gary I would call him when I was close, but my phone was not working and I just showed up on the horizon doing 25. Sorry about that Gary! All the other hand-offs went off great, plus there...
