    Schlumpf

Torque Lever Still waiting to test. Hoping to get over to Norway soon. I'm assured by Ben Cooper of Kinetics that it's all possible with a torque lever installation. Spacers would be required (the same external diameter as the bottom bracket clamps). Have a chat to Ben...

    Schlumpf

Schlumpf Mountain Drive Finally had a chat with Ben Cooper today (http://www.kinetics.org.uk/). He has checked the dimensions om my rough picture and believes that it is entirely possible to fit the Schlumpf to a Vendetta, if one uses the Torque Lever style of installation.

    Vendetta in traffic

Making the transition. I've clocked up a lot of miles on a RWD SWB Bacchetta with Cro-Moly frame, (weighs a lot at around 33 pounds!). It'll be an interesting experiment to see how I make out with the Vendetta. Should be fun! Have two weeks to spend in New Zealand in January/Feb. for my...

    how to manage traction

And another thing with traction! I mentioned in another post that I'm interested in using Hutchinson tubeless tyres (Fusion 3). These use lower pressures but still (apparently) have lower rolling resistance than conventional tyres. Maybe this addresses John's recommendation in Point 3 above?

    Vendetta in traffic

Steering column angle Hi John, As mentioned, I will be taking a test ride of the Vendetta in the New Year. This will either be at cycles-bentoline near Grenoble (Gabriel) or Sykkel-Bent in Norway (Peder). Maybe both! Are these both Version 1 Vendettas with the slightly more reclined steering...

    Bridging

Works on a RWD recumbent But not for long! O.K. for a short term burst on a steep hill. The fitter cyclist (which excludes me) might benefit. On a long hill it doesn't work for me or I would quickly be kn*****ed! Spinning at around 70rpm in a low gear works for me. Also, if the hill is really...

    Mirrors only for USA?

Zefal Hi Peder, The Zefal Spy mirrors are available very cheaply in Europe. I use them on both sides of my present recumbent. Around London you need to keep an eye out for some of the idiot car drivers we have here. My next purchase may well be a Contour Roam 2 helmet cam so I've got a record...

    Vendetta in traffic

Ride comfort FWIW. I've heard that tubeless tyres give a "cushier" ride, very low rolling resistance, low weight and a great resistance to punctures. If you've got Ksyrium wheels you don't even need the special tape to seal the spoke ends. Limited choice though, it seems to be Hutchinson or...

    how to manage traction

It isn't just recumbents! When I'm cycling around South Devon (which has some horrendous hills), I occasionally have to use my folder. If you sit and spin fast the front wheel will occasionally bump off the ground (it's a short wheelbase bike with my weight only just forward of the rear axle...

    Body angle

I'm sure this must already have been mentioned, but do all Vendetta riders lean forward when taking a sharp corner, or is this a personal preference to suit individual riders? Couple of frame captures from the video of Maria Parker on her way to setting one of her records. She leans her upper...

How small a granny gear can you get on the Vendetta

Just checking! Hi John, So, if I've got this correctly the dimensions are like this:- (with the chainstay clamps going down onto the 44mm bearings)?

How small a granny gear can you get on the Vendetta

Compatibility Hi John, I understand your position. It would be a nightmare to make it fit with every component and accessory out there. However, if I can get the internal diameter of the chainstay clamps and their width, that would be useful. The rest would be up to Schlumpf/Haberstock...

    Schlumpf

Schlumpf and cassette Hi Eric, 11-34 Cassette, lowest gear 16.6 inches (1.3 metric). This was all with the old 26" (559) wheel. Now with the 700c it's 17.7 and 1.4. Can't say I notice the higher gear but it's good on the downhill with the 56T and 11 on the back. Managed to hit 45mph (still...

    Schlumpf

Vendetta in Norway Hi Peder, Thanks for the photos and info. (it's interesting that you also ride a unicycle, as does my son - must be a Norwegian thing!). Even with the test ride in Grenoble there may be a problem with snow as it is a ski-ing resort. I am exactly 6 feet tall so test riding...

    Schlumpf

Torque Lever Hi Eric and Charles, Reading carefully through the manual (again!) it does seem that there is nothing to preclude the use of spacers if you use the torque lever method of installation (as opposed to cones). Provided the internal and external diameters of the spacers...

    Schlumpf

Cones As an additional thought, if Haberstock suggest the use of the torque lever rather than the countersinking process (and they will sanction the use of spacers equivalent to the width of the chainstay clamp...................!).

    Schlumpf

Thanks Eric. When Florian Thanks Eric. When Florian Schlumpf was running the company they were a fairly innovative organisation (and had workarounds for most situations). Florian Schlumpf sold this business to haberstock-mobility at the end of 2011. This company now carries out the...

How small a granny gear can you get on the Vendetta

Hmm! Hi Charles, Whoops, I thought the chainstays were clamped onto the boom! The Schlumpf does have cones which are available in varying widths. I think these are about the same external diameter as bearing cups. Guess we'd need feedback from John Tolhurst and...

    Schlumpf

Hi Peder, It's relatively Hi Peder, It's relatively easy for me to fly to Oslo (cheap Ryanair flights). It's also cheap for me to stay there as my son lives there (my daughter-in-law is Norwegian). However, you seem to be some way from Oslo (280km). If I test ride a Vendetta I would probably...

How small a granny gear can you get on the Vendetta

Refer back to Schlumpf subject Hi Charles, This was why I was interested in the Schlumpf drive fitment. To get the same range on a triple FD you'd need a 56T large ring and a 22 tooth small ring!! So, if the Schlumpf will fit - problem solved. It ain't cheap though! Price for Schlumpf in the...
