    changing front chain ring

    I would like to change the chain ring on my freerider v1 from a 44t to a 38 t but the bike store says they can not match the ring and I would have to go to a 170 mm crank arm to do so. What about this; and has anyone gone to the 170 mm crank arms? Any help suggestions would be appreciated.
