New Guy - lots of questions

Also, there are great 'bent specific jerseys that have pockets more biased to the front (and potentially with zippers), just so you know!

Recumbent butt better with Thor seat?

Yes. I've done both-- I replaced my Thor seat with the new CB CF adjustable seat before my 4300+ mile cross-continent tour (because the Thor seat, which had been somewhat abused, was cracking). Honestly, both do the job OK. No complaints either way.

    My Beloved S30 was Stolen!

I have one in serviceable, but not especially pretty state I'd be willing to part with-- it is the one I used to bike from Key West -> Maine. I'd probably suggest get it powder-coated/repainted, as the paint on the rear of the frame has been rubbed off by the lock I kept there.

S40 Chainring - for lower gearing

Same here, except I still have the 50t in the front too, because I was too lazy to remove it. I did the "ratio" mod of my brifter so I could have 12 speeds on the rear.

New(to me) S40, first mbb, first ride in 18 months. What could possibly go wrong?

Going 60mph is too! Though, one is certainly safer than the other!

    I also want a pair :)

    pedal fairings

Would likely also help with keeping feet warm!

Cold Feet - Foot Bar Mitts, Fairing FFS

I've seen these fairings for pedals (non-commercially) in the past, and do recall that they offer some significant aero advantages too!

    Fairings! Does anyone use Fairings!

Foot fairings might work. Don't necessarily to make something huge to get some advantage and comfort.

    S40 for sale in Oregon

Since this is a public forum, I suggest removing that from here:)

    Cruzbike maintenance

Have you considered the low-tech solution of putting weight on the front-end, to balance the bike better for your stand? :)

    Cruzbike maintenance

What stand is it? My stand has a knuckle that allows you to rotate the bike, which you can clamp, for instance, so what to do depends on what the stand can (or can't) do!

    Gearing

I had to learn out of necessity :)

    Gearing

Depends on the rider, and weight distribution for your equipment. For me on my tour earlier this year, I could do: - around 2 mph on a wide road where I can swing the handlebars a bunch without fear - 3mph when "white-line riding" with limited swings of the handlebars - 3.5 to 4mph+...

    New adjustable seat, not?

This happened to me on my trip. I bought a small hacksaw, cut them off, and replaced them. Love the seat otherwise!

New Adjustable Carbon Fiber Seat and Headrest for the Cruzbike V and S series

I use my old headrest thingie upside down. That provides a nice strong base for my behind-my-head bag, which also has the bottle-holders.

New Adjustable Carbon Fiber Seat and Headrest for the Cruzbike V and S series

FWIW, the new seat (with ventisit pad) and headrest worked well for me on my S30 on my coast-to-coast tour (50+ biking days, 4000+ miles). It'll be staying on my S30. This replaces a Thor seat that I had on it previously.

    Gearing

No, but I've put various other gearing on Silvio S30s or S30s. Currently I have a 9-50 e*thirteen cassette on my S30, and have used it with a 34t front crank, which I'll be changing to a 44t crank. Again, this is on an S30. I find that gearing much lower than 34(front)36(rear) ends up in wheel...

    San Diego or bust

I believe that, overall, waxing the chain not only makes for more carefree riding, but it likely decreases the time I have to spend on maintaining the bike/clothes overall (a lot less cleaning.. and.. nasty black grease does tend to get on lots of things). Anecdotally, my waxed chains last...

Chain Popping off Front Chain Rings

If you find you want/need to increase the derailleur chain capacity, a good hack is to replace the lower idler with a larger tooth'd idler. Most derailleurs will happily accept something 2t larger at minimum.
