20” wheels?

I just saw a picture of a stick bike with 20” wheels. I already have two sets of wheels for my S40, for 28mm road and 35mm gravel tires. But, the small wheels looked cool and I have a great gravel trail near me, so…. can I get a small set of wheels with wide gravel tires for off roading? Would I have to do anything to make this work besides buying wheels, tires and a cassette? It has disc breaks already. Has anyone done this and what did you think? Thanks.

Small wheels don’t roll over bumpy surfaces at all well. They have a smaller contact patch and wash out easier too. Lowering pressure sufficiently for a comfy ride means pinch flats. I run a hurricane bike and gto trike with 406 wheels. They do spin up fast. You can certainly fit wide tyres 406 to 20” rims. Eg big apples .But in my opinion unless you need the bike lowered you’d be better off ditching idea or going with 26”.

I have a set of 406 on my t50. Wide marathon racers. Total hoot. Easiest Cruzbike to ride ever. Great for rail trails but really shines as an urban bike. Small and easy stops and starts.

What kind of wheels/width did you buy? That sounds like what I am looking for.

I should get all my questions together before I post! What do you think the widest tire would be that those wheels would take? Thanks.

You can get 406 tyres with mtb patterned tread. Schwalbe do a big range of 406 tyres. I have used 406 tyres on the dirt both trike and bike. If the surface gets slightly rough like a fire trail you have to lower pressure to 20 psi and risk pinch flats. Small wheels don’t like edges of rocks sand etc.

I think it would be fun to but some crazy bobs on 2.1 wide.

I also run my t 50 and my sofrider on dirt and gravel with 26” wheels just fine.

Well I ordered the CB wheels. Probably get Kenda knobby tires. I have my V20 for speed and 700 road and 700 gravel wheels for the S40. I just thought these looked cool and will give it a try. Will post a pic when I get all the parts.

I can't wait to see the pics and read the post!

I was wondering about doing this to a Vendetta...

Ok, here we go. It is about 1.5 mph slower than my 700/35s on dirt. It is harder to push. I’m sure the knobbies have something to say there. I like it on the crushed stone gravel parts of the trail we pedal. Feels more secure being lower with smaller tires. I also don’t mind going off the trail if I have to due to oncoming traffic. Not being a big builder, I didn’t consider wheel size when I installed the cassette, but it seems to work. Don’t know how often I’ll use them, but I am getting lots of comments!C4FF91E2-8C08-4F68-9A7B-A1302B7F9CCD.jpeg

Woh crazy stuff .... my immediate thought was mini moke. Looks like you could ride on the moon.

well done joy on following through and making a versatile bike ready for the bmx track. ;)

Yes the mech is in close proximity to the ground but in use it has never been an issue for me. Just watch your lines.

I probably should have used 24’s, but the 20” wheels were on sale. I probably won’t use them that much, but they give me another option.
