Just finished up this wonderful, fantastic, and beautiful 7-day tour yesterday! It was great!!!
Here are my Strava files for this most recent Skyline Drive - Blue Ridge Parkway Tour of 2021
Day 1: https://www.strava.com/activities/5341586288
Day 2: https://www.strava.com/activities/5350210023
Day 3: https://www.strava.com/activities/5369304254
Day 4:https://www.strava.com/activities/5358471733
Day 5: https://www.strava.com/activities/5363521979
Day 6: https://www.strava.com/activities/5368792512
Day 7: https://www.strava.com/activities/5374036002
Note: The official length of this ride is really about 573 miles (and 57k feet climbing) - Due to the road being unrideable for a 23 mile section near Roanoke that puts the "official" route mileage around 550 miles. I had a personal goal of 700 miles for the trip, so I "did a little extra" some of the days.
Riders present:
Jim & Maria Parker
Ken Holzhausen
Larry Oslund
Alvin Maxwell
Jill Pasxon
Barrett Gamer.
** note last 3 rides rode standard upright bikes ** - so were obviously not as comfortable!
Roger Vale - was our SAG driver and mechanic - Kudos to Roger for taking care of us!
NOTE: Jim & Maria brought 4 brand new "2021" model S40s for us to ride - What fun! The perfect bike for a tour like this. (More on that in my "official" write up!)
You may also notice that my average power, HR & speed for the trip was less than last year - This is primarily due to my doctor's orders to "take it easy" since I just had a stent put in in Feb. He told me not to exceed 120bpm! - which was practically impossible especially as I got fatigued. My wattage effort was significantly less than last year, as was my avg HR. As we finished up, I did learn to ride right around 120 as the max - it just took more focus on my HR than I am used to. It will be really interesting to compare my power, speed on the V20 from last year and the S40 from this year - I will include that analysis in a later post.
I will do a full write up with some nice pictures and commentary within the next week, but for now - enjoy the Strava file and embedded pictures.
