Maria Parker holds numerous records as an ultraracing cyclist. She and her husband, Jim Parker, are co-owners of Cruzbike, a line of front wheel drive recumbent bicycles.
For the past several months Maria has been gathering information and reconnoitering the 3000 mile route of the Race Across America RAAM 2013, the toughest bike race in the world. She will be racing the Cruzbike Vendetta
Recently I met Maria and Jim in Congress, AZ, to drive them through some of the toughest sections of the RAAM 2013 route: from Congress, AZ to Flagstaff, AZ. It is typical of Maria and Jim to find out everything that they can in preparation for another record-breaking experience.
Today Maria announced publicly that she has committed to taking up the challenge of doing RAAM 2013 as a solo female. But it is not enough to accept this most daunting of physical, emotional and logistical challenges. She and her husband plan to raise $1,000,000 for a brain cancer cure.
This Fall Maria's sister, Jenny, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Like Maria, Jenny is a vibrant and intensely genuine woman. The funds raised by Maria in RAAM 2013 will be donated to the Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure Foundation (abc2)
