It is also very difficult to measure 1-3% power improvement. Power meter variance is within that range.
It would be possible to measure chain tension variations and compute the losses directly from that (against baseline data on the chain from a lab test).

But it wouldn't measure the corresponding losses due to frame flexing....

The interesting experiment is power meter on crank or pedals and a Powertap hub to compare rear drive bent against V20.
I missed an opportunity to do this as I sold my Bacchetta shortly after acquiring my S40. I have both a Powertap hub and Asioma power pedals. Would've been an interesting experiment.

Just put them on a Neo smart trainer.

A sample size of one isn't particularly interesting. I'd have been interested in performing the experiment @ed72 mentioned which would be comparing the drivetrain loss from a rear drive bent versus the S40. I no longer have the Bacchetta so not possible.
