adapt front QR wheel to rear

Hi, I am building up a conversion and hit a snag. The gently used conversion kit I received contains an axle to adapt front wheel to rear, but it is not compatible with my hubs, whose QR axles are a smaller diameter. I've got some old non QR wheels that I could use, but I'd like to maintain the decent wheels on the donor '99 Trek VRX300 if possible. Thanks for your help!!

Thanks Doug. I appreciate

Thanks Doug. I appreciate your quick reply and expertise! I'm leaning towards throwing a standard rear wheel on the back. It'll look silly, but is a simple workaround. Next up is taking an angle grinder to the Judy XC fork disc tabs to allow the wheel mounts to attach properly. Any risk from grinding these fork lowers? I beleive they are magnesium? I remember watching a show about the old racing "Mag" wheels and tendancy to catch fire. Thanks again!!

Magnesium...

... is a principal component of military flares. If you set it on fire, water won't put it out. (don't ask me why I know this...)

Better to cut the towers off with a hacksaw and file the stubs down with a flat bastard file.

You'll get a better resulting finish that way, anyway.

Thanks!

I'll go about hacking and bastardizing, which sounds about right for me. I'll be sure to post pics once completed.

Ahh, such negativity!

"hacking and bastardizing"

Come now, this is "pre-installation component optimization"!
