Adding Patterson Transmission to Q45?

Just ordering a Q45!

Has anyone tried adding a Patterson Metropolis transmission crankset to get 2x11 gearing? I’ve seen and tried this on a T-50 and it is great. It only comes in a 165mm though so I’m not sure how well it will fit on the Q45 which is 155 mm.

Thanks in advance,
Gary

I’m more wondering if there might be an issue of having my knees hit the handlebars? I’m 6 feet tall.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Just been reading about Patterson's transmission box... just for $300. That's quite a bit of gear for 300. So I noticed @Robert Holler has one. Perhaps he can chime in. Is it heavy to use both in weight and gear selection? Does it ever need any maintenance and what type of gear selection mechanism does it use? Twist grip or Brifters ?

Guess you lose efficiency with large chain rings and it might be a bit heavy for a vendetta .... what do you say?

I have been trading some emails with Rob on this. He believes it will fit okay (even with a 170 mm crank arm length) and has actually used one on a old Quest in the past. I test rode a T-50 with it on the weekend and it seemed to work great. Granted I've never ridden a T-50 without it, so I can't really comment on the additional weight. But it rode fine for the test I did - 2 speeds with a trigger shifter on the one I rode.

I have just ordered a Q45 and will likely add it to that bike to have extra low gears to help out on the big hills in my area. I'll reply back once I get my bike set up but things look promising so far ...

A follow up for folks' future reference sake ... unfortunately things have not turned out well. While one can install the Patterson on a T-50, it won't work on a Q-45. The attachment bracket of the fork to bottom bracket is too close to the outside edge of the bottom bracket and does not leave enough clearance for the attachments on the Patterson to encircle the bottom bracket shell. The fork attachment clamps seem to be in the way.

Before you give up on this, check with Sam Patterson (if Robert didn't already). He put one of his cranksets on an older Hase Kettwiesel for me several years ago. The email I have from 2015 is samhpatterson at yahoo dot com.
