Adjustable seat angle ideas

The youtube video I linked to in the 3rd post in the thread has a nice and simple solution. An aluminum plate with a wide hinge fastened to the standard carbon fiber seat halfway up. Exactly what you propose, only raising the top of the torso, so the hip to pedal distance is unchanged. The cable actuated raise / lower mechanism is simple but effective as well.

Having just bought a Thor seat, I am still thinking about trying to make it work, but I can't deny the simplicity and effectiveness of Philip's (the video's author) solution.

Oh, I have no idea how I've missed that one :). Yea, that is indeed what I've had in mind. You'll still get your distance to bars changed, but that is less important and may actually come in handy.

Telescopic boom. Complicated enough for you? Heavy enough?

I think your irony is misplaced. I don't do stuff that is heavy and complex for 'heaviness and complexity' sake. It is a compromise of reaching my goals with limited resources, tooling and engineering expertise available. If you are willing to fix at least some those constrains, you are certainly welcome.

As for the question at face value, a boom that will telescope 'on the fly' AND will remain stiff, and will not try and telescope when you don't want it to would likely result in construction that is indeed a bit too heavy and complex even for my 'perverse' tastes.

I have a habit of misplacing my irony. It will get me in trouble one of these days. Actually I was not just referring to Balor. Balor is just one of the people who's tools and expertise are a lot less limited than mine are. The best I could do were heel-clips and my bar-end friction-shifter.

Actually I think my mudguards are genius.

If you monitor some of DIY cruzbike projects, both carbon and aluminium, boom attachment points (and seat interface, btw) are points that fail most often. They are *very* highly loaded.
Hence you experiment with those at your own peril...
