Axiom Journey rack strut modification

Cruzbike advertises that the Axiom Journey rack will fit the Silvio, and the website shows wrapping the horizontal struts around the rear snubber. I wanted to avoid the snubber so I bent the horizontal struts so that they will bolt into the rack mount holes on the rear fork. The drawing shows the bend angles (the bend radius is not critical). I fashioned a jig (see picture below) to make the bend, and found that the material was not difficult to bend. The second picture shows the installed rack.

Interesting. Curtious why you wanted to avoid the snubber, although for no particular reason that I can identify, it made me a bit nervous when I saw those instructions. The downside of your scheme, of course, it that the becomes specific to the SIlvio.

Nicely done...

And nicely documented. I love it when folks post this way. Helps others to use the same solution. Good onya.

Mick,
I thought the wrap around the snubber was improvised to make this rack compatible with the Silvio; the reasons to avoid it are continuous adjustment of the wingnut, potential wear on the snubber, and it is probably not intended by Axiom to be mounted this way. I wanted to improve the fit of the rack and to use the existing rack mounting holes on the Silvio. Sorry if my details were confusing. Indeed, this modification is specific to Silvio.

Hey Jim, I recognize this drawing, I got my Silvio all put together and I am going on a 15 miler tonight, I will probably bend my rack up this weekend. What size bolts are those and what type of thread...Thanks Brian
