Before The Speedometer Broke:

-I could spin out my Sofrider at around 34 to 36 miles per hour.
This is with the stock Kenda 65 p.s.i. tires, on the flat with a tail wind
or down hill.

That's a fact: the 'speedometer' was a ten year old G.P.S. receiever.

Now, with the old G.P.S. receiver dead, I just average my speed by
entering my rides on, "mapmyride.com".
The last ride was 27.4 miles with an average speed of 14.something m.p.h.:
some of that was waiting at a red light (there were witnesses....)

If the Sofriders and the Freeriders are Cruzbikes?
Then the Silvio must be a Superbike!

So, which GPS are you getting now? i'm thinking about getting a Garmin Edge 705, with heartrate and cadence monitor.

GPS was nice while it lasted, but I've no plans for replacing it.

The unit that failed on me was my father's, who used the Marine GPS receiver
to time his progress, along with a separate heart-rate monitor, while rowing his racing single-scull.
He had the unit replaced under warranty back in the '90's...so it really is not worth repairing.

I think, since the bike is in no danger of breaking any speed limits -with me on it-
then I really don't need a speedometer.

So, Jon, I can't comment on your choice of GPS device since I have done no research on a replacement GPS device for my use.

I'm not getting it to monitor the speed, but to race against myself. You can record a route and then the next time race against your previous ride. You can swap routes with others. You get an barometic altimeter as well, so you can say sure, i only rode 10 miles, but there was 3000 feet of climbing in there, except that in Denmark the tallest point is 567 feet, and arround me i think the highest point is 100. I need to ride 20 miles to get to a point which is 300 feet.

It can also record my heartrate and cadence with regular interval. I can get graphs over the ride, and other statistics. I hope to get more fit.
