what would be a good box size to fit the V?

I will have to ship it soon, and wonder if standard bike store boxes would work

Thanks,

Seth

eBikeShipper K9988 Bicycle Shipping Container

NOTE: THIS UNIT FITS AN ENTIRE BICYCLE INCLUDING THE TWO WHEELS. The eBikeShipper™ is the low-cost solution for shipping your bicycle. The container is constructed of layered, high-quality double-wall corrugate and is designed to withstand the compression and impacts experienced during air and ground shipment. Critical areas of the shell will contain four layers of double-wall corrugate when fully packaged. Its small size and dimensions will minimize the cost of shipment. To pack the bicycle, the following components must be removed: Both wheels and quick release skewers, pedals, handlebars and/or stem, seatpost and saddle, fork (in some cases) and front brake (in some cases). The eBikeShipper™ ships folded in a flat package and weighs 14lbs. (6.4kg). Once the carton has been fully assembled and packed, its dimensions are 43x32x11in. (110x82x28cm). We have sold over 4,000 of these fantastic designed containers and we have only 4 damage claims. If you have a damage claim we will pay up to $500 FREE of charge. No hard case or soft case is safer and we have the damage records to prove this. Must pack with newspaper to qualify for this guarantee.

From Bob ‘Ratz:

Best case I've found on spec is the B&W I'm still trying to find a US dealer that carries them but haven't had a ton of time to research it.

Ship bikes.com XL recumbent box works well you need to remove the wheels; the hand bar and the seat that's it. Box is fairly cheap to ship fedex if you use shipbikes broker service.

Be aware when buying shipping containers if you think you might fly with them. The rules constantly change and it varies from airline to airline but one thing is pretty consistent. That is they waive the oversize part of the container when it is considered a Bike or sporting equipment but they hold fast to the weight limit. This is usually 50 or maybe 70 pounds depending on your ticket type. Thye problem is the hard shell bike cases 1 . dont fit recumbents well and 2. weigh a lot. You will almost always go over 50 pounds and maybe 70 if aren't careful. This means more money. This is the reason a cardboard box beats the hard case designs. They will get you under 50 pounds if you are really careful.

Yeah, this time I'm just shipping it ground. I like the cardboard box K9988 you mentioned above, inexpensive and right sized.

This question was for my FL Keys trip plan at the end of Feb, to go from Miami to Key West, then ship bike back to MI, and take ferry to Ft. Meyers and fly back. Sounds like the ferry won't allow recumbents, so shipping from Key West becomes a requirement. If a bike shop down there has a box that fits my bike, I can use that, or I may have to order a box and have it delivered down there.
