Building a Cruz Clone

@skankingbiker I ride my T50 on all trails and two tracks and gravel. Works well. My last modifications were to cut the seat stays down and cut the steer tube down so my seat goses back further and my arms are lower.
A WISE man once said that, """if there are no photos, then it did not happen!!!!""

So the next time you see this wise man, ask him if that means if there are no photos one can deny something ever happened? I think that could be helpful LOL

Or did the wise man also say:
“Come to the Michigan event and see firsthand.”

I don't think I will be able to get out of Australia to USA until November, but I MIGHT be able to travel to New Zealand in September, but that would be in the middle of their Snow skiing season, which is not good for cycling!!!!!!!
The state borders are still being guarded by gun toting policemen, who would love to issue a $66,750 fine if found using a side road to bypass the control stations on all major roads!!!

To skip my bad jokes and puns about firearms scroll down to post 70 or click here: https://forum.cruzbike.com/threads/building-a-cruz-clone.13329/page-4#post-161943

If you like that kind of thing and don't mind a little ribbing then read on we're gun-ning with you.

In michi-gun you don’t have to be a police officer to pack heat. You might get questioned more suspiciously at the border if you have all your arms :emoji_muscle::emoji_muscle: but don’t bear your arms :emoji_gun::emoji_gun: so to speak. :p

(This is in response to @superslim so banter is ok right? If I’ve offended you let me know and I’ll edit from my igloo in 29 degree temps. PS. That is degrees Celsius here in Canada. )

No one will be surprised when I say the Coloma rod and gun club is a not far from where we will be riding, but since this is country, most people just shoot in their back yards.

I think that we are safer in the "Land Down-under", with only a few guns in the hands of citizens!!!!
If you rocked up to a border check point with a shotgun, sniper rifle and assault rifle on the rear window rack of you Ute (Truck?), then your feet would not touch the ground until in jail with the keys thrown away!!

Curses! Now I’ve gone and started an online political gun-slinging arms wrestling match when trying to be funny AND I’ve derailleured the thread. Sorry @JW1951. Let's return to our original genetic engineering: "building a cruz clone".

okay just one more..... it is the law in Michigan that you cannot have your rifle/shotgun resting in the gun rack of your pick up truck (hence why i don't have a gun rack) HOWEVER, there is no prohibition on gun racks on trikes, and no law against resting your gun in your gun rack on your trike while you ride to the range. i just haven't gotten around to testing the theory.

This week , going to cut off the 34mm head tube and replace with a 44mm to accommodate the Performer tapered steerer tube. I'll raise the frame height soI can bolt the seat direct to the frame. The bracket in the pic was temporary to see if I liked the seat height. I changed the seat to a Thor GS with a Ventist which works much better. Pretty soon going to have a bunch of extra parts to sell !!
I'm running the 26x1.95 tires at 40 lbs to smooth the bumps a bit. So far with about 60 miles - rides pretty decent. Although- a little suspension on the rear like a Q45 would probably be nice.
Never riding a recumbent before, the bike I ended up with is not near what I initially envisioned, but it seems to be exactly what I needed. In retrospect - the Q45 may have been the best choice for my style of riding.

I wish he had given us a better look at the road surface so we could see exactly how bad it was. I think my Silvio has been on roads like that. If I wanted to make a habit of it I would want tyres like his, which would probably not fit unless I got 650B. Could he take the thing that adjusts the seat angle and replace it with a spring? On a Cruzbike-type design, this would not waste any watts, because you pull the bars and do not push the seat. A gravel bike without mudguards is just daft.

I think that if the seat can move in relation to the pedals (like you suggest) the it would impact the power transfer. I definitely push against the seat. Your Silvio suspension has it rigid from seat to pedals with the wheels only suspended but the REV would have a sprung seat. I’m not sure if I am making any sense. o_O

My experience mirrors yours, benphyr.
Maximum power, for me, relies on a firm connection between the lower/lumbar part of my backside and the bottom of the seat.

An interesting anecdote:
-one time I passed a Bacchetta uphill on my Sofrider.
My bottom was firmly in the saddle which helped me to make power easily.
His seat was a thick open-foam pad that compressed and released with every pedal stroke he made, visibly robbing him of power.
