Can I put a triple fornt deraileur on Freerider V1?

I bought a free rider in 2006, and upgraded much of it, but after I installed a Triple front derailleur with Rotor 22-34-44 chain rings, I cannot shift to the top chainring. I checked the derailleur to see if the set screw was too tight, it still had space. Is there something I need to do to get the third chainring to shift?
