Case for Quest 559

I am looking for an economical way to travel with my Quest 2.0 559. I came across a Dahon case that is ?28.5" x 32" x 9":

Do you think I would be able to fit the bike in it? Also, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That case is smaller than the box that the Q ships in, which is already pretty tight. (30x29x12) I imagine the frame and a wheel would fit, but it could be a challenge to fit it all in.

Seriously though, the video might give you some inspiration on how to pack your Quest 559.

suitcase and wheelbag?

Thanks for your replies. I just realized that if I fly southwest I can get two checked bags for free, so maybe I can get a wheel bag and pack the rest of the bike in a regular suitcase. I wonder if without the wheels, I would have enough room in the suitcase for a few days worth of clothes without going over the 50lb limit....any thoughts?

Assuming I could pad it well to prevent damage, do you think the bike minus the wheels would fit in a large duffel bag (ex. 29x19x15)?

Q559 3.0 in case

Due to some convoluted circumstances I have a Q559 v 3.0 and a set of 20" wheels. I've tried the Q559 frame in a softside suitcase of the same nominal dimensions as the Flite case and it fit. Based on that, I'm assuming that I'd be able to pack the whole bike in the case. I would consider buying a Flite case if I was sure the frame would fit in it.

Has anyone else traveled with a Quest in a soft sided bag? This one has the pull handle bars stiffening the back/bottom side but nothing on the front/top. I'm thinking about what I could do to reinforce/protect the bike. One thing I think I'll do is remove the crank since it looks like it ends up against the edge of the case. I also see that Bike Friday sells a plastic brace to stiffen the bag side to side and prevent crushing. Any other fine ideas/suggestions welcome.

Curious to revive this thread to see if anyone else has some (updated) case suggestions for the Quest 559? Mine also has 26" wheels and I'd like to attempt to travel with it on a plane. Might also look into splitting the wheels into a different case if no one has any good solutions. Are there any??

Fits 26" wheels. Note that I have one, but have not yet disassembled my Quest to pack it.

Soft backpack case. Folds when you reach your destination so you can carry it on the bike. I don't have one, but still have my eye on it.

Some sellers (I think including S&S) sell struts with round feet to brace the large sides of the cases against crushing, and nets to hold the entire disassembled bike so TSA can lift it out and inspect it without unpacking it and repacking it (badly).
