Community Jersey preferences

Poll to gauge interest in the Jersey discussion and some of the general prefences to guide design ideas.

Things that make a good Jersey:
1) Style, Fit and Cut variety available in a mixed batch order.
2) Proper fabric you don't want a jersey that has to be washed every ride and still stinks of sweat
3) Minimum order quality and 1 offs if needed
4) Ability to put the design on different style without any crazy setup feels. (al hail computerization)
5) Shipping cost
6) Suppliers participation for charity and or placing their logo on the file works.

So those drive the supplier side and that's easy enough to research out.

Then on the rider side of the equation

1) Designed Style
2) What you want in a jersey;
2a) Pelaton style, Racer style with lots of words and splash; (Vite jersey leans this way)
2b) Rondo style subtle emphasis on 1 or 2 things or a logo (current CB, and 3k miles jersey is in this camp)

Etc.

My preference would fall between the Nascar and straight Subtle Rando art. I personally want a jersey where the focus is firmly on the Cruzbike brand (with a probable inclusion of 3,000 miles to Cure somewhere in the design). I also personally want the Cruzbike logo and name large and prominent. As a professional artist, I want something with a very strong visual signature. It can have bold or subtle contrast. But I'd like a unified overall graphic design.

And I love your phrase ratz. It captures the heart of this community.

As a commercial artist, I don't care who designs it. I'm willing to donate my time and skills to the project if you would like. My initial thought was that I would draw up a handful of comps with different types of subtle and bold designs to help get a sense of what type of visual the tribe wants.

Here's a more Rando style design as an example.

I know tribal art is "fad-like" but something tribal would be most welcome.
It can be subtle.
It can be totem-like.
It can be "celtic" community knots...whatever.
It will probably be something only we understand - but that's what makes us the tribe.

I'll draft up a few tribal examples. Might be kind of nice to tap the Aussie roots of the design this way.

My background relative to this discussion. Commercial artist for 30 years. Retired college dean of a computer animation school. 4 art related degrees in both studio fine art and commercial art. Masters is in Illustration. I work with both digital and traditional art. I'm president of an eight person textile art studio that makes repeating art for the wholesale interior market. I also periodically do consulting work in the animation industry in production and character design as well as art direction.

Our textile firm was launched in 2012, so it is still establishing our reputation. In the meantime I went back into health care so that I have insurance due to my T1d. I'm working to transition out of the corporate/academic world into a more independent studio model while addressing my health issues.

Mrs. Axe would advise you to ignore any fashion advice I supply. My fashion sense is colorblind and usually lost.

Wasn't that long ago I was riding in regular old cotton T-shirts and basketball shorts.

I only own one jersey. I did the strava gran fondo once so I could complete the phrase "been there, done that, got the t-shirt". Helped that it was purple, which is part of the uniform in south Louisiana (LSU Tigers). I've worn it exactly once in 6 months because I don't like the feel as much as my heatgear shirts - like the batman shirt.

What I guess I'm trying to say is - I'm with Gilda:

Make sure it doesn't itch

I wouldn't mind superhero-like - just the ZZ on the chest.

I was actually drawing portraits at the JDRF booth to raise money the day we met.

Threw in some character sketches just as an example.

Abbot, it would be cool to see a drawing of a Vendetta superhero character (similar to Superman or Batman of course) riding a Vendetta. I can see it in my mind's eye.

The jersey I want ... is nonexistent.
It's a smart jersey, using active camouflage technology.
My idea is that the garment will sense everything sharing the road with it
and it will look back at the closest object: The driver of the closest
vehicle will see big eyes following their every movement.
Of course, whatever the smart jersey sees will be displayed on the
monitor mounted in front of the bicyclist, aiding the biker with vital
situational awareness.

It's a given that the garment will be durable, solar powered, rechargeable,
comfortable, wicking, lightweight and so on.

This will definitely be in the final design. It won't show up necessarily in these early small scale sketches because of their scale and because they only show the front of the jersey. But it will be in the final.

I'm thinking it will end up on the back. It's too much text to be read as we blow by a DF. But it's perfect to be read while we're milling around at the finish of the ride or stopping along the route to get a bite to eat. A great use for the real estate on the back of the jersey that's against the seat while we ride.

Confused. I think that you are asking for the jersey to be in a high visibility color scheme like a safety vest orange or lime green, but not sure.

Not asking for anything. Just have a strong preference for visibility over fashion, so my preference is "none of the above."

abbot and ratz thanks for all your sterling efforts. i would love to purchase a community jersey if one is made. this is a great idea and whatever we end up with it will be fanratabbotastic.

Abbot, I think "Cruzbike" should be in large letters somewhere so it is very visible, just like the VITE racing jersey!
