Covnerting a tandem

Has anyone tried to convert a tandem. I have a Univega Mountain Bike style tandem which looks like the captain's seat can be converted. If I am thinking right this would give a reclined captain and upright stoker with independent peddling.

Thoughts?

Sounds possible

You could even have a recumbent position for both captain and stoker ... can you give a picture of the frame in question?
